I do not believe in nor support the concept of gay marriage. Many people try to equate the struggle for gay rights with the struggle for racial and gender equality. It doesn't work. Race and gender you are born with, being gay is a choice. The stock answer, of course, is that it's not a choice, it is something inborn in the person. There are two ways to address the issue of inborn desires. First, when sin entered the world all sorts of things went out of whack, so it is entirely possible that human desires were affected. There may be some validity to the theory that homosexual desire is an inborn trait, all sorts of things entered our genetic code after the fall. However, man is also capable of reason and therefore capable of choosing NOT to follow those desires. Man is not an animal incapable of controlling his actions. Secondly, society is stepping down a slippery slope by legitimizing gay unions. Where is the line drawn against other unions such as polygamy or pedophilia? These and many other types of behavior are also based on inborn desires. How do you tell the polygamist that his desires are any less valid than the homosexual?
Take religion out of the picture for a moment. The secular function of marriage is promoting a union that forms a stable unit upon which society is built. With the heterosexual divorce rates hovering at 50%, this is not the time to be tinkering with marriage. Activists seem to think that legal recognition of the gay unions is the holy grail. The Netherlands have recognized gay partnerships for the last decade and they have the same separation rate as heterosexual marriages. Just what the courts need, more divorces clogging the system. The government needs to be more concerned with preserving existing institutions rather than introducing more chaos.
People ARE free to do as they wish in the privacy of the bedroom. However, freedom does mean that society must give legal standing to such unions. As for marriage being a strictly secular institution, it's worth noting that divorce rates are lowest among couples who attend church weekly.

I believe that Marriage is about love and love is not strictly between a man and a woman, it is a very bigoted position to say that gay marriage is wrong; they have just as much right to the legal rights afforded to straight married people, just because their heart doesn't go the traditional way is no reason to persecute them.
I personally am not gay, i am however a freedom of choice person and who are we to tell people who they can and cannot love?

I believe that all Americans should be given the same amount of rights that you and i enjoy. Who you pray to, what color you are, or who you are sleeping with is non of our concern and should not hamper your rights in anyway. Stop gay marriage and we might as well start restricting who votes and segregating the water fountains again.
I give a rats behind about your morality. This is a legal issue and the government has enough power. I refuse to tread on the civil rights of any group no matter how alternative a life style you lead.
Let the KKK rally, Marilyn Manson perform, and the gays get married.

just because you believe this way, doesn't mean everyone does. and why sacrifice the rights of others, in order to replicate your moral beliefs. You don't have to like it, just let other people make their own decisions. moral laws are questionable because then who's morals do we follow? mine? yours?
lately the arguement is that gay marriage demeans heterosexual marriage. this is ridiculous. it's like saying that another's marriage reflects on your own.
homosexuality isn't going away. as a nation we need to find a way to accept this and move on. marriage isn't a spiritual concept to everyone, i think atheists would agree. there is a legal aspect to marriage that even gay people have a right to.
not that long ago we banned certain people from sharing water fountains with others. based on the color of their skin.

No, I agree with, this is why. If it is legalized, not only is it not natural. it will give those pushing for legal plural marriage a huge boost. Because which is more natural, same sex union, or mating with more then one of the opposite sex?
If one is legalized they both could be. Then you could literally have a string of marriages in that one person is marriage to this guy who is married to this lady who is married to this lady who is married to this guy and this guy..........
Personal I like just having one Mom and Dad, And I love just having one Wife. No offense but that's all I can handle.
Besides, why should other people get "special" rights just because they chose to be different. I that's the case then I think that everyone with black hair and blue eyes should get special treatments.

You believe that all you want, but you have no right to force that belief on other people. If you think that marriage is between a man and a woman then marry a woman and mind your own business. I plan to do the same...

Two people who love each other and want to unite should be allowed to do so - both legally and in the eyes of God.
I don't believe that the BIBLE is what we should base legal decisions on in this country. Mixing up church and state is not wise.
Of all the gay couples I know - almost all of their relationships are loving, respectful, long term relationships. If they want to tie the knot - I believe they absolutely should be allowed to do so.
Right now - there are MANY people out there claiming "partners" on their insurance - who are not really partners. The insurance companies are paying BIG TIME because this country is too chicken to let gays marry. If everybody had to MARRY whoever they were covering on their insurance - there would be no reason to allow people to cover their "partners" It's all so silly.
Nobody will force YOU to marry somebody of the same sex - so why do you care? I don't get it.

Yes I do. A marriage for me is the unification of two people who love each other and want to pledge this love to each other in front of friends, family and in the presence of God. The gender of the people getting married has no significance for me.

In the constitution we have the freedom of speech. But why not the freedom to act on our own, or our own beliefs! I believe in gay marriage, because you cannot force love, it comes by own its own. If you persuade yourself from loving your own gender to the opposite, life is not meaningful if your not with the person you love, even if it not accepted by soceity. We cannot listen to the media, yet we act the media is how we follow our lifes. Take a stand!

Sure. I'm not so stupid to believe that two women or two men couldn't be just as in love and deserving of marriage as a man and a woman. I'm also not stupid enough to believe that marriages that ARE between a man and a woman are all that "sacred" to those married.
