Not necessarily. I'm not an atheist, but I support their right to choose a path of doubt and skepticism, if they wish. It's their decision, and doesn't bother me one way or another.

Well, no.

Of course, I say this as a Buddhist, many (or perhaps most) of whom are atheists. Some traditions believe in "gods" but certainly not the "God" I think you're looking for.

I'm not entirely sure how you expected to not offend with a question that essentially states: "Group x, wouldn't the world be better off without you?" I don't expect the secular humanists and other "hard" athiests are going to take this notion kindly. Imgine if you will how it would go over to ask the same question about Muslims, Christians, or Jews. (Of course, people do that here every day too, but no one pretends it isn't intended to be offensive.)

Not at all. The world would be a better place if everyone would except the views of others. If you want to be an athiest, go for it. If you want to worship the flying spaghetti monster, more power to you. As long as people keep saying "The world would be a better place without *insert group here", there will be tension and hate between groups, and the world WON'T be that better place.

The Netherlands - ultra liberal subscribing to very little religious doctrine. Marijuana, Shrooms, and prostitution is legal.
Annual Murders: 130

The United States - Conservative with policies reading like the book of John then the Declaration of Independance and the Constitution. Marijuana, Shrooms, prostitution, and cigarettes(were getting there) is illegal.
Annual Murders: 13,000

Iran - Ultra Conservative with the Koran being the law. Hell alchohol isn't even legal here. I think the women get beaten for howing too much wrist as well(just a joke).
Annual Murders: None of you damn business!

I'll stick with my side of the fence thank you very much

By the way if you play the population game in comparison with European nation stats against the US think again. All of Western Europe combined (aprx 450 million people) has less then 25% of the US's murder rate.

Restriction causes resentment that leads to violence.

Liberty leads to self determination and peace.

The most violent parts of the world are also the most religious?

No.
Do you honestly think the world would be better if it was ruled by single all powerful religion? Some iman and pope makes every religious doctrine it to a law/ Atheism by it self is not a solution to anything but its a start of more rational society.

No offense taken, and no, I do not think that the world would be a better place without atheism. I think the world would probably be better without organized religion.

The world, and all society, thrives on the differences of men. Getting rid of something, such as religion or atheism, would just inhibit further progress. We need as much diversity as possible, not to sound obnoxious and free rights-y but without differing opinions, ideas, and solutions, where are we going, and how can we realize and correct our mistakes?

no!!!

The world would be a better place if everyone believed what they wanted to believe without feeling the obligation to hate whoever doesn't have the same beliefs as you.

And if you do hate whoever doesn't religiously agree with you, then you just shouldn't believe in anything. I didn't want that to sound offensive, but I honestly think that if something causes you to hate people, then why believe and be faithful to that? Where do you see beauty/peace/love in that?

No. Humanity seemed to start improving once we stopped assuming God was responsible for everything. The more we push back his responsiblities the more cures and technological innovations we find. There is the alternate path to go back to the Dark Ages in which the plagues ravaged Europe in the shadows of gargantuan monuments to the God that apparently didn't like them.

Well, it's hard to say. I personally am very religious but if there were no atheists, what would be the purpose of religion then? I mean, who would we tell and spread the word of God and Jesus Christ? Ourselves? Christians to Christians? That wouldn't be very useful. God put atheists on this Earth for a reason, and that reason is that we have to help spread the word of God to them and to others that don't know him, and if they accept it or not, it is up to them, but at least you'll know you've done your part! Hope that helps.
