This is how I do it when my house is really messy, like after a long family visit.
First I go around with a large trash bag and pick up all the garbage.
Then I sit my hamper in the living room and pick up all of the clothes around the house.
Take all dishes and neatly stack them next to the sink.
Start a load of laundry and fold whatever is in the dryer. (this is KEY to keeping the laundry room/area of your house clean. ALWAYS fold and put away your laundry right away, otherwise you're going to have baskets just sitting around full of wrinkled clothes)
Start with the kitchen/dining area. Load the dishwasher or do the dishes. Put them away.
Get out whatever cleaning supplies you use and wash all of the surfaces in the kitchen/dining room so that they're, done other than the floor.
Move on the the living room. Clean/organize the coffee table/end tables. Small baskets for remotes, tv guides, etc. under the tables work well for reducing clutter. Look under the cushions in your couch and chairs. You're sure to find some fun stuff in there. Be prepared to vacuum these later.
Dust all surfaces and just take a damp cloth and wash down the coffee table, end tables and any other surface. (windex and paper towels if they're glass) Don't forget to clean the compter desk, monitor and Tv.
Move on the the bathrooms. You should have already taken any towels and rags to the laundry room.. so go ahead and scrub the tub/shower. Clean the sink with some 409. Scrub down the toilet and clean the mirror(s). Organize the cabinets and drawers. Throw out anything you haven't used in over a month. All that old medicine-toss it. Old facial creams and half empty tooth paste despensers-toss them, too. Anything you don't use on a semi-daily basis, or know you won't use, just get it out of your way.
Now work on the bedrooms. These don't have to be perfedtly organized, because you're just human. Everyone I know has a pretty messy bedroom (not to mention their kids' rooms) because they are high traffic areas. Just put away clothes, straighten the bed, make sure you don't have dust piled under/on the furniture, the drawers are straightened and your closet looks moderatedly organized and you should be fine. In most homes (well, mine at least) the bedroom is kind of an off limits area, anyway. I don't really like for anyone to be in mine so I lock it a lot and don't really worry about it being spotless.
Okay, so go back to the kitchen and whatever other rooms have linolium or hardwood floors. Go ahead and sweep and mop those, then move on to the carpeted areas and vacuum while the other floors are drying. Don't forget to vacuum out that couch! There are sure to be crumbs and whatnot in there, (if you eat on it) and that'll just attract hungry bugs. Eww.
Okay, so that should just about do it. Good luck. If you make out a routine that works for you, it should be easier to keep your house clean. Good Luck.

1. Start with your kitchen.
Clean the stove, microwave, clear the junk/expired items from the fridge and cabinets, wash the floors, do the dishes, clean the sink.
2. Clean up the washroom(s).
Clean/scrub your bathtub (you really don't want to take a bath with millions of micro-organisms that are harmful), disinfect the floors and the toilet. Wipe the mirrors clean.
3. Clean your room.
Start with making the bed. Vow to never leave clothes, books, anything strewn on your bed. Make bed every morning.
Start clearing your floors of things like newspapers, old magazines, dirty clothes.
Clear out your wardrobe of things that you don't need/wear and donate them.
Vacuum the floors and open the windows. Let the fresh air circulate in that dusty room.
4. Do your laundry/ironing.
5. Clean up the mess in the living room.
Wipe the table with a clean, wet cloth.
Hoover the floors.
That's all I can think of :)

Hi!
First, get organized, room by room, donate or discard, unused items. Straighten up the closet or room while you are at it. Then with the clutter out of the way, you can begin to clean, room by room, visiting and seen rooms first. Then, keep up weekly, stay organized. Then you will be down to the basics of weekly cleaning, the bathroom, the floors, dusting.
Good Luck!! :)

I would start with the rooms that are seen by visitors first.
