In Canada they can close your bank account for inactivity, being overdrawn for a length of time or for questionable activity including people writing you NSF cheques or you writing them. They do not have to notify you to close your account. To reopen you must sit down with a banking officer as soon as possible and inform them about the direct deposits that are forthcoming. They may not be able to assign the same account number but they do have a process for re-routing temporarily until you can inform the depositors of your new bank account number. If you account was closed because of being overdrawn and questionable activity work with your banking officer. Advise them that now regular deposits will be coming in. Nothing like before will happen in the future. I know for a fact if you get mad and walk out and think another bank will touch you if that was the reason your bank account was closed that you will be in a worse position than if you try to work it out with your original bank. The banks talk to one another at least here. Worked at a bank for a year. Know a little bit about Canadian banking system.

You can go back and open a new account, but you can't reopen an old account the number and stuff has been refurbished so to speak. But they can begin new account with new numbers. as long as you didn't owe them money, or screw up your new account and have bad credit.

Sure, unless you left on bad terms, such as being charged off, or many NSF's, non sufficient funds.
You will get a new account number though.
Good luck
