I've seen Christians saying that disease is caused by sin. I thought it was caused by microorganisms and malfunctions of the body. Science seems to treat it as such, often successfully.

If disease is caused by sin, why do chemical treatments seem to function so well?

Then again, if disease is caused by sin, what is the mechanism? Did God create the causative elements, or does Satan have the power to create? If God created these things, then how does man have the power to cure?

If sin is the cause of disease, does that mean that we are living in hell, or is simply God punishing us twice?

If disease is caused by sin, why does God afflict his believers?

It's all so confusing for an INAC on the outside looking in. What sort of logic might you bring to bear on this subject for us unrighteous fools?

I'm a Christian in the medical field. I've seen a lot of disease and know a lot about Christianity.

First, most Christianity does not preach that disease is caused by disease. In fact, Christ even teaches against this belief in John 9:3. (He is asked if a man was born blind because of the sin of his parents or his own sin. Jesus says neither, the man was born blind to reveal the glory of God. He then heals the man.)

Furthermore, the apostle Paul talked about an unnamed "thorn in his side" given to him by God to keep him humble and dependent on God's grace. Some feel this was an illness or debility.

Many other good Christians have suffered illness. See Billy Graham, or the late Pope John Paul with Parkinson's.

So, no, almost all Christian faiths reject this idea.

However, some very famous TV preachers have found that preaching that illness is from sin can be quite lucrative. This is from the so called "name it and claim it" gospels preachers. After all, many people want to believe that faith (and, of course, money to the preacher) will result in more health, money, on personal success.

Now, Christians do believe that illness in general, along with every other bad thing is related to the existence of sin and evil. But personal a sin being related to a personal illness- this is not a true Christian teaching.

I can't say FOR SURE yes, but I am not going to say no. But last summer I spent 2 months in Romania, and we would go to prayer circles where they would do healings and stuff, I saw and heard a woman be cured of diabetes. Anyways, this woman was in a wheelchair because her mother committed adultery and so did the woman and before she had sinned she was walking PERFECTLY! That should give you some food for thought. Also, the prime minister's wife of Romania was also healed. She was a also in a wheelchair and after they healed her, she was walking upright and perfect, and God had told her to go and spread the word on how she got healed. (Through God's power and not medical stuff). Anyways, this lady decided not to tell people the truth about God and how he healed her, so the next time she came to the prayer circle where she had just gotten healed a month or so ago, she was using a walker to WALK! Can YOU BELIEVE THAT?!?! From wheelchair to perfect working legs, to a walker, and they say that she might end up back in her wheelchair. DO NOT under estimate the power of God! That's all I'm saying!(Sorry if the words are unspelled, Im in a bit of a hurry.)

Well...some diseases are caused by what Christians view as "sinful activities" For example someone can be put at higher risk for STDs such as AIDS when they engage in sexual activity with multiple partners. Some people develop heart disease and other illnesses due to their lazy life style, which is also viewed as a sin. What I mean by that is that some people eat themselves to death, causing themselves diseases that they could have prevented if they had worked out and eaten right. In the Bible it speaks out against lazy life styles. The point of this is...our actions can cause things to happen. Certain activities that people participate in can cause health problems, but other health problems are not caused by actions, but just simply happen. For example, I have asthma...I didn't do anything wrong to cause it...I was just born with it. I hope this makes sense = )

I realize that this is not a question but a comment to make people think. Think as God as the energy that surounds us and not as a person would be. God is live by itself. If you study the chakras and auras and see how whe get sick if we don't tune with that energy, you will understand that disease is caused by a little of everything. Take as an example that you don't take care of yourself, and you smoke and mess around with your health. SOme may say that God is punishing you for your behavior and giving you a lesson. Some may say is that smoking makes you sick, some may say that you are poluting that shield of good energy that sorounds you and protects you. When a part doesn't work fine the whole system starts to malfunction. All this theories are that same think said in different ways and philosofies.
Some people are born with no health but those people are strong by hearth, some people are healthy eventhough they don't deserve it but who knows how that really works? I think men are not ready to figure that kind of things out. We are not supposed to understand live, just enjoy it.

Just coming to this world is a type of sin so we will face some disease in some way or another. Much of our diseases are coming from fear and hate and holding emotions. Also from the sin of eating animal flesh, eggs, and drinking water with worms etc. Also from illicit sex life. So yes from sin and dis-ease of emotions, and food. Go to gospelofthenazirenes. to understand the original teachings of Christ that Jesus was a vegetarian and expected us to be etc.

no way it has been here since before religion or sin and is just more evidence to show there is no god no way. there is no god and the aflicted are that way because they aare affected by germs and viruses. nothing supernatural there for you superstitious people to claim by coincidence . maybe you think the rich owe that to god too then why do the evil flourish as well you really lack touch with reality to the sane population of the world.May I suggest you find a good therapist.

Yes, disease is caused by sin. Modern medical science, however, is very good at preventing, treating, or curing most diseases. We can therefore conclude that modern medical science is more powerful than God.

No one but the most radical fundamentalist believes that disease is caused by sin, any more than they believe the earth is 6,000 years old. People who hold these views do so in the face of centuries of evidence to the contrary.

Sometimes disease is caused by sin. that is if you sin continuously, and do not heed to warning given by god then he sends disease. Sometimes god sends disease for testing a person, like holy man Job. Sometimes god sends disease if he is angry if you disobey him. The main thing is god wants you to suffer. when you have suffered sufficiently and are repentant he allows you to be cured by conventional methods, i.e. chemical and medical treatments. Suffering is sent to purifiy a person. Jesus himself suffered to cure mankind of sin. his message is clear, take up your cross and follow me. we all on this earth have to suffer, some more some less, and at different times so that we become pure and holy.
Suffering and disease does not mean hell. We still have hope, we can repent, we can ask god forgiveness. When there is no hope, no one to turn to, then it is hell.
Wish you happy New Year, Let it be a year of enlightenment

Good question, but disease is not caused by sin...simply due to our ignorance...
But yes, We are indeed living in hell...God if he or she exists, is just dormant waiting for us to reach him, becuz we are God too...lol...hope that helped...

Anyway, to survive in this 'hell', pls do believe in Science, no other way...
