If she has cystic acne and has tried many antibiotics, the doctor can prescribe Accutane. However, Accutane has MANY MANY potentially dangerous side effects. She will have to be placed on birth control, you will have to read a booklet, sign a waiver and the prescriptions are filled with special rules. It's a LAST DITCH effort when all else has failed. Good Luck and try asking your physician his opinion of placing your daughter on this medication.

Dry and/or greasy skin due to poor oil composition of the skin. Thick greasy oils clog pores, lack of oil leads to dryness and irritation. You need thin oils to moisturize while dissolving and clearing gunk in your poors. Try fish oil or seafood. 2 tsp fish oil a day or 4 servings of seafood a week. Stick it out for at least 2 months; it will take a long time to replace all your oil. Any effect after 1-2 days is temporary or random; so even if it makes you break out a little at first, you haven't given it a full try yet.
In the short term you can wash and moisturize well, but that will only go so far. Plus excessive washing can be drying and excessive moisturizing can be clogging. Use a small amount of a light moisturizer, made with oil not jelly or grease. Often that means soybean oil or mineral oil. Mineral oil means mined from the ground. So soybean oil is usually better, though mineral oil won't cause too much harm. Clean with soap and water, not a harsh acne cleanser. Even then they only work so well. So you really need the seafood.
Antibiotics aren't really good for bacteria long term, they'll come back in force after. Short term they may help. After you get off them find some kefir with acidophilus listed first or 2nd to replace the friendly bacteria they destroyed. Studies show less illness when you have these bacteria, even outside the stomach in places such as the lungs and elsewhere. You want friendly bacteria to fill the void when the antibiotics stop, not harmful ones.
In the short term you might also try 100,000+ iu retinol vitamin A (a megadose, and too much for normal use) or one of the acne drugs that is similar to retinol vitamin A. It's some minor harm to your organs, but it helps against bacteria on your skin. At least it doesn't have the other long term drawbacks to your skin that antibiotics and many scrubs do.
If you would like to learn how to treat your acne permanently and regain your health and wellbeing, without drugs, without typical acne treatments, and without any side effects, then this will be the most important letter you will ever read.

I'm so sick of hearing about ProActive, it does not work! I've tried it for 10 months before, and nothing. I was prescribed all of those anibiotics and nothing. I've wasted my money for you. Give her a colon/ parasite and toxin cleanse and if that doesn't help clear it up entirely, do multiple liver flushes. That works, undoubtedly. You might even be interested. Check out Colonix and ToxinOut by Dr. Natura. Check out the site. And more look up the connection with Acne and Colon Cleansing and Liver flushing.

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer ten times. Each time, the person said it worked great. I'll copy and paste it below.
Use a hot compress on it, and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

runs in my family too, pretty bad with some members.
its one of the most esteem slap'n things for a kid to go through, especially today. they are teased terrible, and when they are not, they are stared at during 'flare ups'.
anyway, i can only tell you of my own kids and what works for them; every kid is different, so different things work for some and not others. for one of my teens, they use Proactiv and it works. it does not work for the other, whom we are still seeking something over the counter for.
and the other one, has to use 'micro retin a' (perscription); its effective but not as harsh as regular retin a... ask for "micro".
MURAD is next on my 'to try list'. (link is below-if it doesnt work, just look for the acne complex kit on murad.com).
tetracyline is good too, but a lot of doctors wont perscribe it (here in NJ) unless they have to (birth defects, damages teeth...so i am told).
just keep trying, some of those commercials on tv w/ acne medicines actually work. give 'em a try.
