My partner is Canadian and he wants us to move from Sydney to Vancouver. I like it there but I am worried about finding a job, missing home and raising kids in a place where it rains so much, is so cold and where you have to pay for incoming phone calls. What would you do? How can I convince him that Australia is a better future for us?

I did live there for a year already and yes, I just loved it but I feel like Australia has the edge for the long term.

Sydney and Vancouver both great cities to live in. Problem is not the destination country. Problem is you are not emotionally ready to leave Australia. Forget the rain and "paying for incoming phone calls". Listen to what you are saying! Those are just desparate excuses. I hear you. It's a big change to immigrant to a new country. Your partner will probably feel the same way if he had to uproot and move to Sydney. This is a relationship problem, not a location problem.

Canada is a great place to live and raise a family. We have health care, a great public school system friendly warm citizens ( well most of them every country has it's idiots). The province of Quebec is a little different though in terms of the kids I mean. They have a daycare program that far surpasses anything the est of the country is doing and from what I have been told by some when you go to school in Quebec you are able to attend post secondary education for free. Don't quote me on that though like I said that is just from a friend of a friend type thing. Check out the individual provinces websites. You will get a lot of info there. Alberta is booming right now in terms of work. You basically can pick and choose what you want to do. I lived in Vancouver for a time myself and hated it. Sorry to any of you who disagree. I myself would never bring my kids up there. I am originally from Nova Scotia and would move back there in a heart beat if the economy was a little More stable there. You will never find a better breed of people than those from the maritimes. I currently live in Ontario and enjoy it just fine. Good luck

Incoming phone calls??? No, that's not true, sorry.

As for convincing him, may I respectfully suggest that you either come to grips that you may not, or tactfully point out all the great things you have in Australia.

But - please don't think Vancouver is a poor choice... I have lived in both cities, and enjoyed both!

Ah, Beautiful British Columbia Canada! There is no place on earth quite like it! Either you love it or you hate it! I love it, I have lived in the interior of BC for nearly 34 years. I wouldn't trade it for anything! You've got to live it before you can knock it! Good Luck!

Vancouver is a beautful place. Maybe you could agree to try it for a year and see if you like it.

I think you will have a big culture shock. I think you should try visiting for a few weeks first.

When you do you will first miss seeing the sun everyday. And you won't like the crime and dishonesty.
