Upon leading his inquisition, Saint Dominic wrote, "For many hears I have exhorted you in vain, with gentleness, preaching, praying, weeping. But according to the proverb of my country, 'where blessing can be accomplish nothing, blows must avail.' We shall rouse against you princes and prelates [heretics], who, alas will arm nations and kingdoms against this land..." (Friedrich, End of the War, p74)

Then, under the guidance of Pope Innocent the Third, Dominic started the Order of Friars Preachers, which had as its primary purpose the implementation of an inquisition. (Edwin S. Hunt, James Murray; A History of Business in Medieval Europe, 1200–1550)

Yet, I'm told by Catholics that Saint Dominic had little or no roll in the inquisition. Do they have an alternate version of history?

Are you sure that your sources aren't tainted? I've heard many a Catholic-hating Protestant present information in a way that would present Catholicism as non-Christian. That's the biggest problem in Christianity - Christian on Christian hatred. Not as horrifically enacted as during the Inquisition, but still it exists.

As for the Inquisition, Catholics admit that this happened and that it was wrong. Both Catholics and Protestants participated in the cruelty of it. However, Catholics started it to a good extent. The Protestants just jumped in full force right after them.

The reasons behind it are more complex than just religion. It has a lot to do with politics. There were many wars across Europe in that time period. Some new Christian denominations were honest in their desire to worship God in what they considered a pure way. Others used religious unrest as a springboard for taking over the lands and wealth of their neighbors.

this is great that you probably did this. i'm not so particular even if it truly is unquestionably names that we are noted as, extra so ideas and ideas. as an celebration, clergymen are noted as pedophiles, we worship Mary and the Pope, we are not Christians, we are cannibals, we pray to saints, cultists, satanists, and clearly, the whore of Babylon. those rude, boastful and infantile feedback receives them no the position- so I fail to ascertain the point for why human beings call us those names. Even after answer after answer declaring that we do not worship Mary, they nevertheless bypass on declaring that we do, like they have some divine reason to have self assurance that. they're only misinformed- and it truly is with the help human beings Catholics to set those questions instantly. Ever note even as a Protestant asks a question about the Catholic church, many Catholics answer thorough and targeted solutions, the right answer- inspite of the indisputable fact that the Protestant nevertheless possibilities yet another Protestant answer because the perfect answer? i imagine it truly is undemanding insecurities. all of us do not ignore that none of those names or claims are real, and that i have self assurance that looking for the right solutions from fellow Catholics right here in R&S will really make us more suitable. Protestants are lacking a lot- they don't look to be really lacking the truthfully body and Blood of Christ, they're lacking so a lot extra, God's real presence. ignore concerning the attacks, because it truly is largely blatant lies.

From what I've been exposed to, I found that Roman Catholic documents are tainted upon many levels. If you go to the Catholic Encyclopedia online and check out things like the Reformation and Martin Luther, you will find some horrible representations of history. It really amazes me the way they handle to Inquisition. They blamed a lack of control as one of the culprits that allowed the Reformation to take place! Apparently they think that they needed more people to 'convince' people to go to Mass, and apply the Roman Catholic laws into society.

Without the Reformation, we wouldn't even be allowed Bibles!

There are at least two St. Dominic's. The Catholics you're referring to may have the St. Dominic of Medieval Europe confused with St. Dominic Savio who was born at Riva, Italy, in 1842. This particular St. Dominic died when he was only fifteen years old.

If by "alternate version" you mean "historically accurate" then yeah. As history shows, all that stuff about St. Dominic being a Inquisitor was made up by other people in order to use him for anti-Catholic purposes.

If you want some real fun reading, check out the Malleus Malificarum. There are copies online. Lots of fun.
It was the document used by Inquisitors as a guidbook for their work. It told how to question, how to be able to promise a witch that she wouldn't be put to death, but then do so without causing one to lie. (for that trick, a judge would make the promise, and recuse himself after the witch said what was wanted, allowing another judge to put her to death)

Lots of fun stuff in historical documents.

Yes they do.
And not just with that, but with Peter being the Pope and Mary ascending to heaven.
That never happened.
