That's why they bash the atheists all the time.

I don't. A good friend of mine is an atheist.
I wish she wasn't. But her life is her property, not mine.
It is only Christian to respect someone's boundaries.
I am embarassed by "religious" who refuse to do that.
There are atheists who believe that Jesus lived on earth, at least, and I am fine with that.
Some atheists don't believe because they can't.
Trying to convert someone is playing God, any how.
Trying to change a person's beliefs is like trespassing.
Arguing about religion or politics is not biblical either.

I have had the same neighbour for the past 30 years and have always liked him. I am deeply religious and always thought he was a christian. I found out only this christmas that he is an atheist. It did not change the way I look at him in the least.

This question is quite stereotypical. I am a Christian and I do not believe that atheists are bad people. Many atheists I have come across have been very moral people. Sadly, sometimes more so than most people that claim to be Christians.

I'm a Christian, And I don't believe in making generalizations like that. Atheists are no different from any other group of people. There are some good and some bad. The good ones, will either find God one day or They will find Him on judgment day rewarding them for serving Him even though they didn't know it was Him they were serving. ( See Matthew 25)

We are not say-ing that they are bad people. Many of them seem to have a high moral code of behaviour ; but for all this good behaviour they will still go to Hell if they do not accept : John 3: 16, and if they do not believe in God. They will be better people, if they believe in God and accept John 3 : 16. Remember that the Bible says: " I tell you that prostitutes and sinners are entering the Kingdom of Heaven before you.... ".

The quickest easiest answer...No. Now if I were to expound on that I could go on for ages but I am not going to. It is the same way I feel about gays, smokers, gamblers etc. Everyone has free choice to live and believe how they wish. No they are not all bad people. Some current Christian people used to have very bad habits.

I am a christian and I think that the majority of atheist that I have come across in life seem to be good upstanding citizens just because someone don't believe what I believe don't make them bad

No. There are "bad people" who profess to be Religious as well as those who profess to be non-religious. If you have this view because of the responses on this website, I would propose that religious people (as like non-religious people) tend to get defensive with people of the opposite view and express themselves so poorly that they give those people with views opposite to theirs a bad impression. Just my thoughts on this matter but I'm rock solid on the "NO" portion of this answer.

I am of the Christian faith but hold the view that atheists have got freedom of choice and are not necessarily bad. Being an atheist doesn't make anyone bad. It is after all their choice. I respect their choice.
