It's not like it's impossible for an omnipotent, omnibenevolent god, and it would certainly be a good thing. Can anyone explain this?

It would impress me greatly. Let's say that one day every believer opens up his holy book and on every page it says "if you believe then there will be no more disease." And then everybody in that religious group sudden became perfectly healthy.

I would sign up in flash.

Prayer is not something that "works", like a magic spell or a tool. This is a misunderstanding of prayer, and unfortunately, a common one.

Prayer is communication with another Person, in this context, with Almighty God. That is all that it is! Prayer is simply part of a relationship: Us talking to God. We aren't trying to manipulate the Force (ala Star Wars and the Jedi), we are dealing with the ultimate Person, who is capable of both granting our requests and telling us "NO", depending on His will.

It is that "No" answer that really riles people up. For some reason, a lot of people think that God somehow "owes" us all a bunch of magic tricks, some sort of performance, to be given when we "ask" and say "amen". This is crap. God very rarely is given His due, and yet the arrogance tossed His direction is staggaring!

So, nothing wrong with praying for the end of cancer, or war, or starvation, or droughts, or diabetes, or anything like that. God may even grant a few miracles along the way. However, God is not beholden to any of us, that He has to jump when we say "JUMP, AMEN!"

Would I like Cancer to be overcome? You betcha. But I'm not going to be angry at God when it doesn't disappear overnight.

Do you think people deserve it? When we get to heaven there is no such thing has cancer or any disease for that matter of fact. I believe that God put some of these viruses and diseases on Earth so we can grow in faith. Haven't you ever seen anyone be healed before? I know I have. Look back when Jesus was still walking the Earth, how did he get people to believe at first, by performing miracles and healing the sick. The sick are still being healed today adn people are turning to God because of it.

Complicated, some things rely on people forgiving, or generational things being broken... It would be better, in our eyes. It would also be a very earnest and very serious prayer - eg. possible fasting involved... Would you get down on your knees and do it and pray that all the barriers are removed???

Healing is within everyone's reach, the need to ask God, and respond to what He tells them - Sometimes it requires being humble (like the guy who had to dip 7 times in the Jordon River - notorious for being filthy)

Ps. The Bible doesn't say He is OMNIBENEVOLENT (which by that you are saying that he is uber well wishing of everyone. He loves Everyone deeply)

Cancer is a disease. Diseases are out there. Diseases are because of personal sins, others sins or environmental sins.

We have prayed for cures. There are prophecied new breakthroughs in the medical field. And some are happening right now.

Sometimes God miraculously cures people. Like at a Church service or prayer group and person was prayed for and cancer dissappeared. I have heard personal testimonies like this. But it depends many times on what we say ourselves. People have been healed of cancer by just claiming Gods Word / Promises out loud in heart faith in Gods Word.

Diseases will be gone when there isn't corruption / sin in the earth or the people of the earth.

God has reasons for everything and even though we don't understand it now it's not for us to understand. God does heal people from Cancer. I don't have all the answers I am new in learning more about my God however Prayer Does work I will grant you that. But sometimes we don't get everything we ask for cause it's not Gods will

many people don't listen to God. We continue to live in sin, yet ask God for help, doesn't work that way. Unless the world repents of their sins and turns to God, we will continue to suffer.
