I think everyone feels like that at some point in their life. I know I have. The best thing I can tell you is to ask your self one question. "Does he love me?" and if u kno for a fact he does...then he'll understand if you have to wait a little bit to figure everything out. If you're afarid of getting hurt...then that means that maybe you don't fully trust the new guy yet and all I can say is give it a little time. If you are inlove with him...that's great but don't move too fast if your not sure. You still need sometime to sort out all your feelings.

I think the first response you got here was a bit rash.
I would say, look at the whole situation, take a step back....what is similar to the times you where hurt, what is different. Look at the personality of this possible love. Does this person act like those that have hurt you before...without any more details i cant get any further in depth....but dont blindly follow your heart, or your head...try and get a good blend of both...and talk to friends, they are a great asset.

I seem to remember that Freud had something to say about
Love How miserable it could make you feel sometimes
and the pain and the hurt were all part of it.. It been a long time since I had psychology but I remember it was like the theory
of relativity for every action there is an opposite and equal
reaction, for every joy and estacy that you will expierience you
will pay in heartache and sadness even if they are just
temporary and only.in your own mind . I found him to be right.
Every time I have been in love sadess and misery was part
of it also.

If you can't tell, try to think of some things that are similar to what you were feeling back then. Is it the same feeling, stronger, less strong. Is it worth trying even if you end up hurt? If it is, you are in love.

You can't let a past experience stop you from opening yourself up to someone else. You have to make yourself vulnerable in order to fall in love. If you're guarded, it just won't happen.
If you're unsure, you should probably wait to say that you love someone. It is very easy to confuse love with attraction, or "extreme like"...
So take your time to decide how you really feel. Just don't be afraid to let it happen.
