Depending on your attitude, most likely a warning. But if you jump my case when I contact you, then you deserve a ticket. You are the one with a broken tail lamp, not me. In my area it is a fix-it ticket, and there is a $10 fee along with getting it fixed, then it becomes dismissed.

if it is crack cocain, $71 is not bad, if the tail light lense had a crack, usually a warning ticket to get it fixed within 30 days.

Warning. I never look at my tail-lights to see if there cracked until someone points it out to me. What if somebody did the damage to the tail-light at night and then you pull out of your driveway in the morning not knowing it and get pulled over. Sounds unfair to get a ticket. Unless that person was warned before and the issue was being ignored.

I have never given anyone a ticket for a busted tail light alone, unless they acted like a jerk during the stop. A warning is good enough as long as they have a valid license and proof of insurance.

A warning. Then if they don't get it fixed in 10 days or so then they get a ticket. That's how I usually handle this.

Ticket. If you are too lazy to fix it, you deserve it. Fix it, and the ticket goes away.
