First off, the chances of being allergic to a toothpaste are out there. An allergic reaction would more than likely take on as something else besides a film in your mouth. First off, I would suggest changing your toothbrush if you have had your current one for awhile. About every 4 -6 weeks is normal to change and make sure you are using a soft bristled brush. Medium and hard bristles can do damage to your teeth and gums. Do not use baking soda regularly as it is an abrasive and cause harm over extended periods of use. Do not use peroxide either..it can also harm the gums and possibly leave a burn on your tissues. Take some baking soda and mix with reg water until you get a paste made and brush with that a few times. Make sure to rinse well after, several times if need be. While you are brushing make sure you are getting down around the gumlines and use a soft circular motion...more force is not going to clean more. Make sure you floss after as well. I am curious to know if you go to your hygienist for regular cleanings also. You may have some buildup and may need a cleaning.
I would try this baking soda mix for about a week every other day and try a new toothpaste. Make sure you are using one though that is approved by the ADA...you may just need a different brand is all.
Good luck! :-D

WHITENER:

A great teeth whitener is to mix equal parts baking soda and sea salt, then brush your teeth with it. It leaves them feeling clean. If you cannot use the salt due to blood pressure problems, that's ok, just use the baking soda and it should work the same. Rinse mouth with warm water afterwards.

I once brushed them with nothing but my brush. I was out of toothpaste but I still felt I needed to get the plaque/tartar off.

Change your toothpaste. You might even have to use baking soda and peroxide instead of commercial toothpaste. When I use crest, I loose skin around my gumline and mouth.

your saliva mixes with the flouride and other ingredients in the toothpaste leaving the residue. sucks sometimes, but happens to everyone.
