do people insist on giving "proof" (usually in the form of scriptures) that God exists, when the very meaning of "faith" stright out of the dictionary is "belief that is not based on proof"? This is once again not bash peoples beliefs just mearly a question.

No, bible texts are not "proof", they are only referrence or testimony, or witness to the fact. If I tell what I saw, heard or know in the court, it is not a proof. The judge or jury can use my witness to make a decision, but it is not a proof by itself. The same with the Bible texts. People may accept it, in making their decision or reject it.

The bible is there only source, it would be different if they knew the true story of who decided what was in it. No females present, everything that they didn't like was tossed. Anything that questioned Jesus's divinity....bye bye. I have never known a more one sided story told by so many people. And lets not forget the the King James version was authorized during a time in history when women were considered property. Just thought I would give you something to think about.

Faith is great, as long as it is your faith. and you don't condemn my for mine.

i dont know how people can use the Bible to prove anything. i use the Bible to show what i believe in as far as baptizing in Jesus name. or the oneness of God. or what not. but not to prove God exist. i mean yes now there are so many who dont believe at all who need to be shown. like so much is happening the revelations talks about. nothing wrong with showing non believers what is going on in the world and what the Bible says. as far as faith God knows who we are. faith without works is nothing. you can tell youself God exist but do you really believe that. if you do you would follow Gods words. and do what he said. that is let everyone know the truth. dont have to force feed it. if someone does not want to hear it you did your job. but also not be ashamed of God for if we are ashamed of him then he is ashamed of us. and so much more like read the Bible everyday, pray, go to church and so on.

if you truly believe you would do what we are told to. if you believe a light switch turns on a light you flip the switch.

if you believe then God will let you know he exist. and the Bible says if you dont believe then any sign he shows us you wont believe it either. i know many instances when i have been blessed and i know it was God and i give him credit but others who dont believe just say oh it was luck or what ever.

if you already have the faith then when God does do stuff you know it is him. but for non believers and those who are luke warm. for myself i know the truth and share it. and for those who know the truth or not i give them this info and they can look it up. i put the info in the source.

One of the reasons believers quote the bible is that God's word is living and active. It is sharper than a double edged sword; it divides soul and spirit, and is the discerner of men's hearts. People may get upset at hearing it, they will insist they don't believe it, but it doesn't matter. His word is not chained; it is eternal, powerful, it transforms from within. That is why it will be the only thing that will last, and it is why you will see it in these forums as long as the Yahoo Answers Religion section exists.

I would perhaps question the dictionary's definition as being incomplete since only "blind faith" is without any proof. The Apostles saw Jesus in person and thus had the proof, yet they were said to have faith.

This is something I've grappled with because throwing out the word proof automatically makes discussion impossible. Currently, the best I have are justification, reason, and rationale. I like justification the best because it at least implies you put something of yourself into your argument.

My faith is based on the Holy Spirit. I know it's there, changing my heart and leading my life . . . . but no one else does. I do whatever I can to spread God's word.

Thanks for asking.

Because faith is the belief in that which can't be seen. I believe in Myself. I'm my own god. I'm a Physical Entity of my life, not being run by a fat guy or whatever.

Faith is belief without SEEING. The answer here is simple:

Jesus Christ when here among us, was The Word in flesh -
In other words, when you read the scriptures, you are taking in Jesus Christ himself. He is the living Word. Faith and the Word go hand in hand.
