Christmas break & Spring break are so hard because you hate to make them go to bed at the same time over break but you hate to get them out of the habit because it takes a while to get them back in the habit. It's 12:00 midnight and my 7 year old just came downstairs to say "she doesn't feel good" which is code for " I don't want to go to sleep" LOL I usually have them in bed by 8:30 or 9:00 and I have two 7 year olds, a 4 year old & a 3 year old. The 22 month old usually goes to bed about 8:00 and the 11 month old usually goes around 10:00 because she still takes 2 naps during the day. GOOD LUCK!

I usually don't follow a 'schedulle' about the bed time.If the child is a baby,he/she sleeps most of the time but when he/she grows up a little, that changes. You 7-year-olds go to bed later because they don't have to wake up early. That is absolutely normal and shouldn't be a problem for you.I think a child before 6 years old have to go to bed about 9 pm(that doesn't mean exactly at 9 pm,but means somewhere at the time from 8:30 to 9:30).If the child is 7 and older,he/she may go to bed at 10 pm.After the child is 10 years old,he/she has to be let to decide how much sleep does he/she need and let to go to bed when he/she decides to.Some parents put their children in bed at 8 pm in summer. That's no very good. It's stupid to go to bed while other kids still play outside.

My 7-yr old goes to be between 8-9 PM. Usually 8 pm on school nights, 8:30 (or 9) on Weekends and during brake - it's a whatever schedule for the holidays!
Because of all the holiday parties, it ends up being late, but we try to compensate by giving a wake up time (i.e. the longer you stay up, the longer you have to wait to get up.)
Tomorrow school starts again for us, but we had a birthday/new years day birthday party today, so it was not 8 pm pm the dot. Then we ease back into the regular schedule.

I have an almost 8 yr old, a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and they are all in bed by 8 pm. I know how you feel, usually the first week back is the hardest. I suggest...if they are up till 11 now make each day this first week earlier. Like So say Monday they are up till 11, ok, then Tuesday they get to stay up till 10:30 and so on till they are back at their regular schedule. It usaully works for me with no fight.

My 11 year old goes to bed at 8 pm on school nights and most every other night too. You have to keep your kids on a schedule. Do not deviate from it. It will be difficult to get them back into the routine once school starts back. School age children need at least 10 hours of sleep a night.
Good Luck!

Bed time is something that should not be an option for a school age child. Instead it should be enforced by parents. My children are the same way- they are way off schedule since the break. However, they know that on a school night, bedtime is 9:30 regardless. Say what you MEAN and MEAN what you say. Good luck!

Children at this age need 10 hours of sleep and some need 11. So if you find they are cranky in the mornings getting ready for school, never be upset and blame them. And remember that it only takes 3 days to create a habit or break one. I have 3 adult children and 1 still left at home. Teachers have always mentioned that they were alert and well rested. I wanted them to have the best start and a nice day so they went to bed early and rose early enough to have a breakfast that helped their body and brain grow perfectly. The bonus? Me and daddy had plenty of me and us time and the kids were happy and pleasant during the day.

My 7 and 6 year old go to be at 7:30 on the dot. If they are punished it's 6:30. In the summer I let them stay up til 8(Or later if we are at a friends house and vise/versa) During winter break we were a little lax, and let them watch tv in their rooms til they fell asleep, but the past few days it was back to our routine, no tv, and bed at 7:30, to get ready for back to school. I am a firm beliver that children need their rest. I know whith my kids, if the don't get enough sleep it shows in their personality and mood.

My 6 and 4 year old go to bed at 9 through the week, and on Friday and Saturday they get to stay up until 10. And the baby sleeps when he feels like it. But otherwise we keep a set schedule, and it's not always easy, but no matter what, bedtime is bedtime.

I have 2 boys... one is 6 and the other is 8. During school, my kids go to bed no later than 8:30 p.m.. I know what you mean about the change during holiday break!! My oldest stayed up til 2 a.m. watching TV with his dad a few nights ago. So, I have made it a rule that even when they are out of school bedtime is to be no later than 10:30 p.m.. I think that is late enough for kids their age, and it also still allows a little time for me (and hubby) to relax before retiring ourselves. Good luck and hang in there!!
