The purists will tell you that the center and surround speakers should match the main front speakers in sound quality. The reason for this is that you will be able to hear the difference is sound quality as the sound moves from speaker to speaker. If you stick with standard cone-speaker technology for all speakers, this will not be a big problem. Because the speakers are built for different frequency ranges (center and surround don't carry low frequencies) the speakers won't sound exactly the same anyway. However, if you have exotic front speakers (electrostatic or ribbon, for example) your center speaker should be of the same type.

Static from the front speakers is most likely coming from the amplifier. Check all wire connections and make sure that you don't have any damaged cables (this includes the input cables to the amp).

You do not need bigger wire for center or surround speakers, but I would not use smaller than 16-guage for any speaker connections.

Most center and surround speakers do not have handle much power ( usually 50 watt rating is sufficient ). As long as the speaker impedance is at least 8 ohms, your reciever should have no problem with this. As far as the static, check all connections, especially speaker cables. These should not be spliced. Be sure the wire has tight contact on both the speaker and reciever terminals. Also check RCA audio connect cables. #22 awg wire should be adequate for surround speakers up to 20-30'.

you can, but there is the problem of voice matching you want all your speaker's to be the same model because they will be voiced matched to each other therefore sounding the same. if you buy 3 different brands of speakers they will all sound different leaving you with a weird sound. if you have static check you connections coming into your amplifier see if wires are crossing ect. You might want to upgrade to bigger speaker cable (the lower the guage the better) wich will emit better power transfer for a crisper sound with tighter bass.

no you can't get just any for your system, first you have to match the wattage of the speaker against the output wattage of your device, I would recomend a center with a built in powered super woofer system, usually you get a greater output(sound)
