It as a long day and we all found out that we had to stay an extra hour and school starts again tomorrow for most of us. Then when it comes time to clean up I'm out cleaning and most of the others are sitting around. When I am finnished I find everyone eating free pizza, but there is none left for all of the people who were just cleaning. I lost it. These people were the same ones who complained the loudest at having to stay and then did nothing. Was it so wrong for me to loose my temper?

while not wrong, a better way to learn to handle these type situations, is when you first noticed them just sitting while you cleaned, you should of viewed the amount to clean,, divided it by how many people where there, done your fair share, and stopped,,,,, let them know you felt you had done your amount, and what was left,,,

I'd have to say it would depend on just how many times in the past these saps have laid back while only a chosen few work hard to make them all look good.

I worked in an office where it was a known fact that I was responsible for the highest volume of work...the supervisor was extremely difficult, she had a grudge against a relative of mine and I was the closest thing she could come to, to get the relative back...a lot of jealousy seemed behind this attack of hers.

I was forever the one who worked while others "partied" and I was also the one who had to do my work plus "help" two others with their work...while they travelled around the office visiting.

I ended up ill, to the point after 4 years, were I couldn't return to work...there were a lot of things going on with the job and co workers and I guess the body just imploded on itself, my doctor claims I have to learn to let my stress release rather than internalize it...I never said anything to any of them because I didn't want to be rude...so, don't feel bad about what you did, you let go of your stress :), the worst that can happen is they'll all steer clear of you for awhile because they know they have to agree with you ... it's all or nothing as a working environment, otherwise there are people losing out and that isn't fair for anyone. Hopefully your supervisor was listening :)

Good luck

You are not wrong. All of us would think the same thing. I know how this makes you feel, it's unfair. But what I have learned from life is that I don't need to call people on their stuff because they will stand out and will get in to trouble sooner than you think. If you were to say something, you would be right, but people may think you aren't part of the team. Just because you have good standards and morals doesn't mean everyone else is going to have the same. And it wasn't wrong for you to lose your temper, that is human. Next time I would say nothing. That kind of disrespect and behavior on their part will get them in the end.

Nope. I have the same problem where I work. I used to say something about it from time to time but since the boss doesn't seem to think it's an issue nothing I say is going to help. Some people just have better work ethic than others. Your boss will notice who is dependable and responsible and who isn't so always take the high road and earn your salary regardless of what the others are doing.

No way. I hear you buddy. I get the same thing at my work often. People are chatting, eating, outside smoking when I am busting my butt to get out of there. We each have our own section to clean though so it's not so bad. I walk out all cleaned down while others are just starting on it. They give me dirty looks and grumble about how it's unfair and I should stay and help. Whatever, if they'd started sooner they would be finished too.

It's not wrong for you to be angry. Totally justified. Unfortunately there are some selfish lazy people out there who just don't pull their weight.

Why don't you try this next time...when they pull the same thing again, before you start cleaning up, set aside some food for yourself, clean up then eat afterwards. Don't let their standards get you down, get even!

One time, sit & do what they do. Eat the food or just throw it away so they dont have any to eat. Then maybe they will clean sumthing. I hate slackers. They are the ones that complain the most, but do the least. It makes me mad. And you were right to get angry at the lazy bumholes....LOL

I don't blame you for being angry but losing your temper probably didn't even phase them if they were that rude to begin with. Next time you be one of the ones sitting down relaxing and ask the others if perhaps it is there turn this time.

I think I'd have done the same, even though
it wasn't right. I think you should have a talk with them all, and if they continue to do it, then
maybe its time to talk to the manager. Its not fair that others are cleaning up and some are slackers..

It is always wrong to lose your temper. But please know that if you work harder, longer, have better ethics, and can be trusted more than the others, eventually you will be promoted, get more money, and they will be left behind.
Hang on to your integrity and ethics. Do not envy them. You will go farther than they will in your career.
