In an ideal world patients wouldn't need adhesives. But not everyone has an ideal mouth of the best shape to accept dentures. And dentures are not what Mother Nature intended.
I assume this is a full denture (i.e. no natural teeth). Have you had a full denture before?
A full upper denture usually can get some suction. A full lower denture never gets suction, and adhesives for lowers are of doubtful usefulness. That's not to say you can't get a good lower denture, but the odds of good stability are nowhere as good as for upper dentures.
As you get older, the bony ridge will gradually shrink away (mostly the lower), making it harder to gain stability.
Many patients with unstable dentures are investing in implant-retained dentures.

Do you keep the dentures brushed when you take them out at night? I use a denture powder, I wet them down and sprinkle the powder on right away and put them in my mouth and hold them up against the roof of my mouth ( I only have uppers right now) until I feel like they are secure! If you don't have them clean though it can cause gaps so be sure to brush the inside of them every time you take them out!

The first thing you need to do is go back to whoever you got your dentures from and find out why they are loose. If your dentures fit properly you don't need to use denture adhesive most of the time.

My husband swears by the original poligrip dental adhesive. He has tried them all and he says none work but the polygrip. If this doesn't work, you might need to go back and have the dentures adjusted. Your gums will change shape over a period of time.

Go to your dentist and get your denture relined and you won't need an adhesive.
