Science Diet is poor quality for the price you pay. If you are buying a premium cat food, kitty vitamins should be unnecessary, and never give your cat human vitamins.
What to avoid
* Words such as "By-products," "meat and/or bone meal," "animal digest," most other descriptions including "digest" or "meal," and added sugars.
* Chemical preservatives, including BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, and propyl gallate
* Corn meal as a filler
* Excess of carbohydrate "fillers" (Dry food can contain as much as 50 percent grain)
After doing my own research, here are the premium foods I would feed my indoor cat. You can go to the manufacturer's websites to get more info on each brand:
Holistic Blend catfood
Eagle Pack Holistic Select
Eagle Pack Less Active/Indoor Cat Formula
Felidae
Wellness
Petcurean Go! Natural
Petcurean Foundations
Petcurean Summit
Natura California Natural
Natura Innova
Natura Innova EVO
Organics by Nature
Currently feeding my cat Nutro Natural Choice Indoor Complete Care. She loves it, but I have learned that this food is on the low end of the premium food scale quality wise because of the corn in it. She loves it, but I probably won't buy it again.
Most of these foods are found in pet stores. Grocery store pet food is normally poor quality. The Holistic Blend cat food is found in the organics section of the grocery store. Most websites have a store locator so you can see if a store near you sells the food.

Recently we read that dry food isn't good for cats. Their natural diet is high in liquid, and they don't drink enough water to make up for the lack of moisture in dry food, so in the long run it harms their organs. This we read after years of being told they should have dry food because it's better for their teeth!!! We went looking because our cat has mild kidney problems.
If the vitamin is a cat vitamin, that's great. If it's a human pill, not such a good idea. Their nutritional needs are different than ours.
Fish oil is cool, except keep an eye on your cat. Some cats have allergic reactions to fish products. I had a cat who lost almost all his fur before the fifth vet I took him to figured out the reason. Between the fur loss and the scratch marks, he looked like the cat of Frankenstein. And usually he was the most beautiful cat you ever saw!

I just finished a TON of research on this subject. Science Diet's first ingredient is corn and, for that reason, it's one of the worst cat foods, cats are meat eaters. The best types of food are the ones that have a "meal" type of ingredient like chicken meal or turkey meal as the first ingredient. I've decided on Premium Edge Low Carb but Innova EVO is good too. Avoid any food that has "by products" and NEVER get a cat food that says "rendered" anything as one of the ingredients. Try this site for comparisons:

As for the vitamin, I would check with a vet first. People vitamins and supplements can sometimes be really bad for our pets.

I personally heard that Iams has downgraded three times since they started selling their brand in regular grocery stores. I buy their dog food, and just switched to a different, more expensive brand from a pet store because of that reason. Apparently, they have been bought out so many times, by so many people, that they have been cutting down on the higher end products that they put in their foods. Anyway, I would probably go with the Science Diet if I were you. If the cat is older then do the Senior if they have one...just make sure that it is good for their urinary tract....that's a huge thing! Good Luck!

I've got four cats of different ages and nutritional needs and have tried different foods both dry and canned. I've recently started them on Sciene Diet Light since they are not overly active. They seem to be more lively play more than I've seen them play in a while. Even my oldest cat seems to be doing very well on it. I had tried it a few years ago and couldn't get them to eat it, but they've recently changed the flavor and they eat it up. While it can be hard on them changing their food often, it can be worth it to find one that they like and makes them feel better. I still feed my smallest cat Eukanuba since she's a firecracker and burns calories like a bird. She does get along with the others and I keep them separated, so it's easy to feed her different food.

The best cat is food is the food your cat does best on. If your cat's overall health and appearance is doing well with SD then don't change it. If you have concerns over SD, then compare the ingredients with comparable cat food and do some research. Cat's have delicate digestive systems and should you decide to change food, do it gradually.

Taste of the wild and it is rated 4 stars. Both of my kittens and my adult do great on it. I would love to raw feed both my dogs and my cats but I am just not able at this time but later in the future I am def planning on it. They will get water added in to make it wet or they will get Blue Buffalo wet food either or.

Science Diet is a good, well-balanced, and nutritious food. I would recommend it if you can afford it. I would also recommend dry food, even if some others warn against it. I have a cat that is 18 years old and one that is 14 years old, not to mention one other. They have always been fed dry food and they are healthy and active. They still chase toys around the living room and jump into my bed with me every night. My 18 year old cat just had bloodwork run, and the vet says he can't believe how healthy she is.

the Science crunchies are good
the Wyasong ones are better, they cost more than feeding the average human though
trader joe's cans are a bargain, like 35 cents and our spoiled cats love that, some flavors more than others

Well before my 16.5 year old tabby cat died his vet recommended Science Diet wet and dry cat food and ever since he started eating it his health improved quite a lot and he lived quite long. I also have a 16 year old tortoise schell and she likes to eat Fancy Feast, been eating it for most of her life :)
