As said, you may not have enough gross earnings to have Federal and State taxes taken out or your withholdings are high enough that they cannot be calculated against what you earned. You may also have chosen an Exempt status on your W-4 and state form which would stop those calculations from happening in payroll.

It depends on a couple of things. First, how much was your check? If it was very small, then it may not qualify to have taxes taken out. Other than that, you have to figure out what you claimed on your W-4 when you filled out your paperwork. The more allowances you took, the fewer taxes will be taken out of your check. You can look on the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and pull up the 2007 (or 2006 if the check was received last year) Circular E. That breaks down how much tax is paid based on your paycheck, your tax status and the amount of allowances you selected.

Are you an employee? If you are not considered an employee then there would not be withholding for taxes (with few exceptions).

If you are an employee, it could be correct based on your income, or it could be an error. This is a question you need to direct to your employer.

You probably didn't make enough money. It happens.

Be sure to check with your employer to make sure they've got the right withholding information (W-4).
