The simple answer is we created it to beat the Germans to the punch. The Manhatten Project was a direct response to reports that the Germans were developing the weapon. "Why" it was created was to win World War II, for it to be deployed in the European Theatre. As it turned out, the Germans surrendered before the bomb was ready, and we re-targeted toward our remaining antagonist.

Early in WW2, our best intelligence estimates said that German scientists were nearing a breakthrough on a weapon using atomic energy. In response, we initiated the Manhattan Project and put Dr. Robert Oppenheimer in charge. The Manhattan Project had the same goal as the German scientists...to build an atomic bomb. By the time the bomb was completed, Germany was defeated and it was discovered that they were not nearly as far along as we had thought. We ended up using the bomb to end the war in the Pacific. Japan refused to surrender and an invasion of mainland Japan would have cost millions of American lives. The Japanese were fanatical defenders so had we invaded, we would have very nearly depopulated the island. Dropping the bombs ended up killing around 200,000 people in two Japanese cities(stats cited below) as opposed to the millions who would have died in a U.S. invasion. Fortunately, a nuclear weapon has never again been used against people. (hopefully, never will).

British and american spies attended a meeting in germany ( secretly of course ) and told the governments of a german plan to build an atom bomb. Britain already knew how to do this and helped the americans through the science in order for the US to prevent germany from destroying them. It is common knowledge that a long time before the US dropped the atom bomb on hiroshima germany had shelved plans to build the bomb and had no plans to use it prior to the end of the war. Maybe they saw what it could do

The Germans were trying to invent the atomic bomb. They didn't have the resources to make enough nuclear fuel to build a bomb, but we didn't know that, so we decided to build a bomb before they did so that if a country was going to be nuked it would be them and not us. We had the resources to build 2 a-bombs so we did. By the time the 1st bomb was made Germany had lost the war so we didn't drop them on Germany. Japan was not the reason they were created.

the bomb was built despite Einstein's request that it not be built.
the bomb was said to have been built not because it was needed but because fear of the Germans having it was too great . the idea was to have this first so that the USA and the allies would have the means to clearly show the rest of the world we have it now don't you dare attempt to build one or we will use it on you .
sadly that didn't happen. instead the bomb was available and was used because it was available Einstein as much as said that would happen
we all know that now other countries are building the bombs and they do this with out the fear that they will have one used on them to stop them . the thinking of the new builders is that the first builders have seen the horror of this weapon and will not use it again. this thinking managed to work in world war 2 with the use of poison gas. Hitler out of first hand knowledge saw in WWI 1 the horror of the gas. as bad as Hitler was he did not use poison gas against the military enemies this was out of fear and i think knowledge that once used the tactics of war change and we return that instant to a war of attrition. not a war of Witt's or smarts or skill just a war of numbers . that is one war Hitler new he could not win.

Are you serious? During WW2 we knew the Germans were working on an atom bomb. ( which they were in a feeble attempt ) It was a matter or survival. Who ever got the bomb first would survive and win the war. It was about winning and surviving. Aren't you glad the Americans won? Wikepedia must be a joke. Also where ever you went to school, their history dept must have been a joke.

Hello,
I believe the Atomic Bombs, Fat Man and Little Boy, were created to KILL.
To eliminate people, period.
I highly doubt Japan was a true threat to our nation, just like nations before and after WWII.
Secret societies in our nation and abroad have "created" wars for monetary gain and monetary gain alone. Oh, and we can not forget, wars kill off American and Foreign citizens. For some reason, our leaders think they need to "control" the population and rule the world all at the same time.
Hope this helps you................. : - O

There are many reassiosn why we created it. For one it was so we can have them when the Germans had theres (But we kidnaped most of there scintest and gave them US citizenship) The seconed reassion was to have a weapon that stoped the war fast... For example Nagasaki and Hiroshima against Japan. Japan was losing the war in the pacific because they ran out of oil Presadewnt Truman pretty much played a poker hand when he droped them and said there where more where those two came from but there whernt. hop that helps
