Almost every time I cook macaroni & cheese I add something to it. While the macaroni is straining, I melt butter in the bottom of the pan and fry either chicken or tuna. Sometimes I add cottage cheese, garlic, or babies. Some people us tomato soup instead of milk and call it "red mac & cheese," but my grandparents have some sort of red phobia, so I don't make that. I also might add more cheese and bake a casserole in the oven. It just depends on how I'm feeling.

In my hungry days, I added a can of tuna along with a small can of peas and carrots. It was good hot or cold, and I could have several meals off of it. Now that I am out of college and have several pay increases under my belt, I still fix my Mac and Tuna dinner - but not often.

Happy New Year! Do you want to know what is awesome with mac n cheese??? Try hot dogs sliced up, or get the sliced ham from the grocery store, fry it in a pan a little (diced up), and add to the mac, or sliced and fried spicy kielbasa sausage, or my kids favorite, use it at as layer in BBQ casserole, ground beef cooked in BBQ sauce, layer meat, mac, etc till the top. the bottom and top layer is corn bread, and when it bakes up it is awesome! good luck :)

I add cinnamon and a bit of honey. The cinnamon I add to the cheese powder and the honey I add right at the end while everything is still pretty hot. It tastes very good; a nice combo of sweet and savory.

Ground Beef. I invented that. I cooked about 1lb of ground beef and added it to my Shells and Cheese dinner. You can use a can of tuna also, but, I like ground beef better.

At different times I've added hot dogs, broccoli, shredded carrots, left over chicken. My kids liked it.
