Hi there...your kitty has tapeworms and it isn't contagious to humans. However a dewormer is needed. Cats get tapeworms from ingesting fleas and/or flea larvae.
Tapeworms: http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_tapeworm.html
Other types of worms and parasites which are zoonotic (diseases which are contagious from animals to humans) are:
Heartworms
Ringworms
Leptospirosis
Sporotrichnosis
Toxoplasmosis
Giardia...are just some diseases

What you're describing sounds like tapeworm. It can be easily treated with Tape Worm Tabs available from any good pet store or catalog. D-Worm also makes a tapeworm product; look for the active ingredient praziquantel.
Tapeworms are potentially hazardous to humans, but only if you tend to stick unwashed fingers in your mouth. It's not a good thing to have around children, but most adults don't need to worry.

Yes, you can get worms from your cat, but that particular kind of worm (tape worms) would need to be ingested, so just don't eat those. Other types of worms (such as hookworms) can burrow through your skin when they are in a larval state.

Sounds like tapeworms. The little segments are parts of the tapeworm, and yes tapeworms can be transmitted to humans. Wash your hands after touching your cat and schedule a vet appointment soon. Take a long a fecal sample, tapes can be easily treated with the proper medication, which only your vet can give.
Tapeworms come from fleas, it only takes your cat to ingest one flea to get tapeworms. If left untreated, tapes will only add to exposing you and your family and contribute to poor health for your cat.

Yes you can get some types of worms from your cat, if it is tapeworms they are not. They can cause your kitty to become underweight.

Those are tapeworms. You get them from ingesting fleas. Take care of the flea problem, deworm the cat (with a med that kills tapes), and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. You can get tapeworms, but you would get them from fleas, not from your cat.
