You will still be able to put your hair up with layers and/or angles... as long as they aren't cut too short. Also, with layers it depends on the thickness of your hair as to how short you should go with them. Make sure that you have a thorough consultation with your stylist before you get your hair cut. Tell her your what exactly it is that you're looking for and also tell her your concerns. That way you're both on the same page. But don't worry about not being able to put your hair up. My hair is shoudler length and I have layers and angles and side swept bangs and I can still put it up...look at my pic! You might have a little bit that falls out, but if you don't want that then just don't get them cut too short. Good luck!

I have long, straight hair too. Also really, really thick. As long as the shortest layer is shoulder length, you should still be able to put it in a bun, but if your hair is thick it'll be a pain.
Also, I've found that layered styles aren't really worth it with straight hair. You get a little more styling options, but it's not as cute as wavy hair and it requires more maintenance (i.e. more frequent trims) than a blunt cut.
If you plan to maintain it, get trims every 4-6 weeks, go for layers and ask for a razor cut. I have found that razor cuts or cuts done with thinning shears give me a lot more texture and style, even with stick-straight hair. Also, if you can find a salon with a primarily Asain (preferably Southeast Asian, like Vietnamese) clientele, the stylists there will be more accustomed to styling straight hair than at other salons.
Good luck!

layers can deffinetely add volume to your hair. If you decide to go with them ask your hairdresser to cut it in long layers, that way you can easily pull it up and not have half of it falling out. But since your prolly getting it cut to about your shoulder blades that shouldn't be too much of a problem anyways.
On a side note: getting your layers "feathered" which is just a different way of cutting them makes it so that you don't have to do too much to your hair and can let it air dry.

It's a cool look with the layers. I air dry my hair sometimes, and it has layers in it. If you put it in a bun, it looks cool because there are those pieces that will spike out in random directions. But once you get layers, your hair will never be the same length again.

If I were you, I'd get a little more than an inch cut off. Maybe 1&1/2 inches cut off or even two. Layers would look totally great with your pretty hair, go for it=) Hope this helped! I need fifty more points or so to be level two! Trish XX

RE:
i am thinking of getting layers or angles...?
i have hair that goes a little above my lower back. i want to cut it to the middle of my back. i was thinking of getting layers, but since i have straight hair i'm not sure how it would turn out. i like to let my hair air dry and i don't like to have to fuss with it for more than 20...

angles are better because with layers your hair wouldn't grow the same length but thats just me

I prefer hair which is shoulder length or longer, As well as since that men who like ladies are more often then not directly, they like long hair because this looks more feminine, as most men have short hair.
