Without a legitimate copy on your computer, you will get no MS support or updates.

WindowsXP was installed on my PC when it arrived from Dell and there was no CD. If Windows was "bundled" with your computer, you will have to go to the seller to see if you can download.

Before you contact them, get out all paperwork -- purchase date, order number, express code number which is probably on a sticker on the PC -- as you will have to enter this to prove you should get a download.

Best Bet. Borrow an XP CD from a friend, then input the serial key from your laptop (should be on the bottom) Better yet, copy his CD, and just MAKE sure to use YOUR Cd key and not his. This will ensure that you follow legal and ethical guidelines. If you would like the original CDs that should have come with your laptop, then contact HP for a CD set called "quick restore" the option is yours...

You need to either contact HP for a set of restore discs for that laptop model, or buy a full retail version of Windows XP. Borrowing someone else's copy will not work except with the CD key that came with that CD.
