I have a malamute from Alaska who is approx 8 months old. For 1 week now she has been very sick with some form of unknown ailment. Vet said he did not know.. She has very high fever and acts as if back end of her had sustained some form of injury but I am sure she has not. She has been shedding quite alot and it is the dead of winter here. I also noticed tonight it looks like her pads on all paws is coming off which would explain her not wanting to get up and walk unless absolutely necessary. Any ideas?

vet stated he was unsure he gave her a steroid shot and said it would help with soreness and gave me a prescription for amoxicillin which should take care of infection. this was 4 days ago and she doesn't seem to be getting any better vet said probably some form of virus and the shots and pills should take care of it but the pads coming off as i noticed tonight seem very odd are there any diseases anyone knows associated with this condition

this may seem mean but I am saying it for the good of your dog, it needs to be taken to another vet asap. Might I suggest ringing around first, explain your situation and the fact that your vet is stumped and ask them if they think they could correct the problem. Good Luck! bNV

I agree with Krystal C. keep going to different vets until something appropriate is taken into consideration. If she tends to lay around alot, make her comfortable. Keep her warm since she is shedding and see if you can get little padded shoes or booties for her feet.

Sounds like you need to go to another vet. Do you think she could've gotten hit by a car or something?

Go to another veterinarian and get another opinion. If he did not know, he should have recommend you go to another veterinarian. If you have a veterinarian college near you, I would recommend you go there.
