Many roles! Ruth was merely loyal to her Mother in law after her husband, was killed and her husbands father was killed as well leaving the mother in law a widow too. So Ruth committed to help the older woman and worked for the both of them and she was rewarded for her efforts, finding food as well as favor and a rich new husband who would provide for both Ruth and her mother in law. Everyone should be loyal to family and stand in the face of conflict and be as strong as possible for them.
