Get him used to the collar first. Then attach the leash, but keep him indoors, and do not hold onto the leash. Let him get used to that. Then walk with him (let him lead), holding the end of the leash. Then, call him to you, and walk your own direction. Praise him. Never pull on the leash, as it is usually what freaks a pup out.

HI Lisa,
yeah you just have to be tough! Of course your pup hates it, its new and restrictive and weird! But if you introduce it to your pup in a positive way, with food rewards and praise, then hopefully they will come to associate the collar and leash with positive things! And once you put the collar on you must keep it on or your dog will realise they can manipulate you by carrying on! If you leave it on, the dog may act very strangely for a day or two but they will learn to accept it!

Put the collar and leash on him in the house. Don't hold the leash. Just let him drag it around. Watch him so he don't get caught on anything. Let him get use to the collar and leash this way. Once he tolerates it this way you can start picking up the leash. Then you can try him outside with the collar and leash.

When you start out give him lots of leash and let him kinda lead the way. Alway call his name and encourage him to come along, when he starts to get used to it then you must become the leader.
Funny thing is I just taught the two puppies I have (I need to find them homes) how to walk on a leash the other day.

Kimmy is an exceedingly attractive pup! At this factor, all i may well be extremely specific of is that she's area Beagle. it somewhat is often extra convenient to guess what a completely grown grownup canines is, if it somewhat is guessable in any respect, so why not submit this question lower back, a three hundred and sixty 5 days from now, with photos of Kimmy all grown up?

leave the collar on him all the time. they get used to it in about a week or so. For the leash, before you attempt to put it on him, let him smell it so he knows what's going on his collar. Put it on slowly after letting him smell it. You might want to try a training leash at first.
