I don't think that works too well, but here's a trick that a lot of people don't know:
Buy a jar of dill pickles. Add about 1/2 cup of sugar to the jar. Turn upside down in refrig. Turn upright nerxt day. Do this for 3 or 4 days and you will have the best tasting pickle you ever put in your mouth.

It's best to start with fresh brine when you're making a batch of pickles. That way, the brine is clean and free of bacteria. Some people reuse the brine to pickle other vegetables, but old brine can make cucumbers soggy, as well as unhealthy.
If you're going to reuse the old brine to pickle eggs, beets, mushrooms, etc., I'd suggest boiling the heck out of it and adding fresh vinegar to bring up the acidity level. Put the items to be pickled in a sterlized jar and pour the hot brine over them.
Again, I wouldn't let the jar sit for more than a couple of days, and I'd use the pickled veggies or eggs right away.

When I grew my own cucumbers, I would purchase 2 or three jars of pickles long before they were even done. When the pickles were eaten I would leave the jars in the fridge and wait for the cukes to be done and add them to the brine, every 3 days I would turn them upside down and they were delicious.

What an interesting question. I never thought of that, but I suppose with a little effort it is possible. I would think you would be more successful if you heated the brine with the cukes and then put them back in the jar. (Although heat-packed pickles are not as good as cold-packed ones). You would need to refrigerate them as soon as the jar cooled, since there will not be a vacuum seal on the jar.

Yes, but make sure that you refrigerate the jar with the cucumbers so bacteria will not grow in it. Normally, a jar is vacuum sealed to keep bacteria out.

*** i think it'd be too weak to really pickle anything...unless u heated the brine up of course. i HAVE heard of people pickling baby carrots in the leftover brine, but not actual pickles. never tried any of it myself tho.

My husband says he's tried that, and it didn't work.
They have pickling salts you can buy at the grocery store. should have instructions on the packaging.
