You'd have to eat a LOT of ice to equal eight glasses of water. A pound of ice melts to just under two glasses, so you'd need to eat four or five pounds of ice (which is better than half a bag!) to get your fill. Like rock and sand, ice is a mineral. Your teeth are made of mineral, too. When two unlike minerals forcefully come in contact with each other, the softer mineral scratches or breaks (you can scratch a piece of glass with diamond, but you can't with a fingernail). Chances are fair the ice is equally hard as a tooth; and with repeated chewing, you could damage your teeth. Try adding the juice of a lemon or a lime (but no sugar!) to some ice-cold water. I find I can drink more of this flavored water than the plain stuff.

I would not chew ice. My friend broke a tooth doing that! If you do want ice, maybe eat the crushed ice. That would be a little better on your teeth. And for water, you can get the little flavor packets to put in bottled water to make it taste better...like Crystal Light, Propel, etc.

It's pretty much the same thing, but just keep in mind that drinking a glass of water is equal to a LOT of ice cubes, so just be careful about dehydration in hot weather. Try not to substitute ice for water.

It's all H2O but the ice will crack and make your teeth more prone to cavities. You may want to use an ice machine that makes ice chips which are smaller and cause less damage to your teeth. Next time you go to the dentist tell them to assess the damage done from your ice chewing.

Short answer, no, its not the same as water. When you put things in your body, being food or lquid, your body must raise or lower the tempetature of the item to meet that of your body, or about 100 degrees. When you eat ice, your body uses water to heat the ice to an agreeable temperature for your body.
Yes, it's also bad for your teeth to grind on ice all day.

I guess it would be the same thing. The only different is that water digestes quicker than the ice but it is the same since everything breaks down into liquid form anyway.

first of all don't worry about your teeth, enamel on your teeth is the second hardest natural substance in the world, but ice is very close to the same as water, your body will just digest it a little different since it has to melt first

you would have to eat a LOT of ice to equal the water you would need. Also, eatting that much ice could crack your teeth. I've done it myself.
