Tell him that Bethlehem is about the same latitude as Georgia. (Show him on the globe.)
They don't get a lot of snow in Georgia nor in Palestine. Palestine is also warmed by the waters of the Mediterranean and the warm winds that come off of the Sahara.
You can look up the weather forecast for Atlanta on December 25, then check out the weather in Jerusalem and Bethlehem for the same dates.
This might also be an excellent opportunity to talk to him about how different parts of the world have different climates. For example, it's now summer in Australia and New Zealand.

As you correctly stated, there isn't much snow in Israel to begin with.
And, as Voodoid correctly says, He may have been born in another season. The Bible says nothing about what time of year Jesus was born. Although there isn't anything wrong with having Christmas on December 25, I very much doubt that marks the actual day.

You already have a good answer so why complicate it. If you wish to tell a bit more truth then you may have to say that December 25th is not the real birth day of Jesus. It is a compromised adjusted date because the calendar used at that time was the lunar (moon related) calendar and was changed by Pope Gregory to solar calendar (sun related or seasonal calendar).

"its just a part of the world that doesn't get snow often".
Do you know where Bethlehem is??
they have as much of a chance of having a white Christmas as Greenland has of having a Green Christmas...

Well thats not really hard. Just tell him that the climate in that particular part of the world is different and that it just was too warm to snow.
And also: just because. sometimes it does sometimes it doesnt. u need to tell your son that theres not always an explanation for everything...

Because judging by biblical references to the position of shepherds and their flocks, Jesus was actually born in the summer or fall. The date of Christmas actually falls on an important date to Mithras, who was very similar to Jesus. Therefore it was easier to get the peasants to go along with the new world order if you didn't go changing dates.
He probably won't get that, so just tell him God didn't want the poor donkey having a harder time walking. :)

You could explain that Jesus was not born in the winter, and that they moved the celebration of his birth to the time when people who didn't believe in him celebrated their birth holiday, so that they could all celebrate together.
Teaching is a gift, but more wonderful is the gift of tolerance of other religions and beliefs.
