I think it depends on what your ring is worth. I just had this conversation with my Mom since I just got engaged as well (Congrats by the way). I chose to not get it on my renters insurance, BUT she spoke with the guy who handles all of her insurance (car, homeowners, etc) He said that unless you have like $20,000.00 worth of jewelry, that it's not worth it to get an extra policy. However, just tonight I was looking through in-style weddings and there is an ad for Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co. You can find them at www.jewelryinsurance.com. I guess you could check it out and see how it looks, but check with the local BBB before using them. I know that my guy bought an extra warranty or something with the jeweler as well and as long as I get my ring checked every few months, should I lose a stone due to a broken prong or whatever, they replace it. :) Best of luck to you!

it should be covered under a renter's insurance policy, they theft and id theft coverage under most renters policies..I have one,I would never be without renter's insurance, hot water tank exploded upstairs apartment because the guy didn't pay his electric bill in the winter, that happened like 7 years ago.
My whole closet of storage was completely ruined.
Amend your policy ,talk to your insurance agent, amendent to a policy should not cost that much.

Check around, but the cheapest would probably be a rider on your renter policy.

Get the ring appraised (written appraisal - different from a sales receipt, because the ring can be worth more than what was paid for it) and then get a rider on the insurance policy.

I would say switch to another company for everything including your car. Atleast with our ins co. we get multi policy discounts which is currently saving us 25%.

If the value is over 1K you should insure it. Call your agent tomorrow and ask the right advice. Amything less then that- don't worry about it- it wount be worth it.

Have it "scheduled" on your policy; you'll pay a small additional fee.

Your question is fine, but I suggest reposting it in another section. This is for relationship *advice*, not insurance dude. If you have the time, could you stop by my question too? thx http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apdk962IjqHAuLHcxmEOFqUezKIX?qid=20070101193339AANwTx3
