How embarrassing. No there is no limit on how small a purchase...and if a store tries to tell you..you have to buy at least 5.00 or whatever, they can get in trouble for it. They also can't charge a fee for anything over 1,000.00 or whatever...That is also illegal. They can get in trouble for that too. I've had several declines and I know it shouldn't be the card. I wonder if there is something wrong with the CC machine or terminal...it's not uncommon...They can also run the card with out charging it. To see if it is good. Next time you use it and that happens ask them to get "authorization only" and see what happens. If it is approved, then they can go ahead and do the real sale. If not, have them call the CC company and ask them why...they may need to talk to you.

Yes the credit card agencies usually ask for a minimum purchase of five dollars (and stores or gas stations themselves ask for higher sometimes).
This just came up in Boston because the city started buying pricey credit-card based parking meters. Then they found out, after the purchase, that there was a 2 dollar minimum and people who parked and just wanted to get 25 cents worth of time raised heck about it. The city finally threatened to take them out if the minimum was enforced and it worked for them. Most credit card users are not that lucky.

The credit card company does not, sometimes a store does have a minimum purchase limit...maybe a five dollar purchase....as they have to pay a fee because you are using a credit card in their business.

You would have to ask your credit card company. Sometimes invididual stores will require a minumum purchase. This, however, is in direct violation of their merchant agreement. They just don't want to pay the fees.
But again, check with your bank or credit card issuer.

credit enjoying cards don't have "minimum purchase quantities." they have minimum fee quantities for the invoice. some retailers will possibly no longer settle for credit enjoying cards for small purchase quantities, yet it extremely is the product proprietor's determination - no longer the mastercard enterprise's.

because of transaction fees, some retailers have enacted a policy of min. purchase amounts to make the transaction profitable for them. For instance, at a gas station down the street from me, you have to purchase $15 worth of gas to be allowed to use a credit card.

Try another purchase somewhere else and if that doesn't work, call your credit card company.
