Msconfig doesn't come with Win2k. It's on Win98, ME, & XP. However it is possible to install the XP version on a Win2k box. Here's what to do:

Get copies of Msconfig.exe and Msconfig.chm from an XP machine. The fastest way to find them is just do a search. They're small and will fit on a floppy. Copy Msconfig.exe to C:\Windows\System32 and copy Msconfig.chm to C:\Windows\Help

Once you've done that just run Msconfig from Start...Run.

I don't know if this will work on Windows 2K but it can't hurt to try, place the Windows 2000 CD in your drive, then go to Start > Run and type sfc /scannow (exactly like that). It will attempt to replace corrupted or missing files. Windows XP and 2K are similar enough that it SHOULD work but I make no promises that it will.

bostonianinmo pointed out that Windows 2K doesn't have msconfig. Follow his instructions on how to get it installed and then try my suggestion. There are no promises even that will work because you are kludging something together.

Or you can use Windows startup manager http://www.neosoft-tools.com/windows-startup-manager.htm
It disables any startup programs and fully controls startup by selecting the programs to be launched, while customizing the startup settings (ie how often and when programs should be launched, etc).
