This is one of the most often-asked questions. As an atheist, I have to emphasize that by taking God out of the picture, we are NO CLOSER to resolving the ultimate mystery: the fact that SOMETHING always existed (process, potential, etc.) and that this SOMETHING had within it everything that resulted in a universe and sentient beings, etc. My friend who is also an atheist thought he had the whole issue resolved by just saying it was the Big Bang (or by pointing to the theory of beginningless/endless cycle of universe creation/destruction) until I spent time bringing his mind to the consideration that it wasn't. When he finally realized what I was getting at, he realized the enormity of it and realized how much he was missing. It's incredibly unsettling when we REALLY take time to consider the ultimate mystery and its implications.

We, as humans, find it hard to understand that Almighty God has no beginning....or end for that matter.
The reason? Well, because everything we see including ourselves has a beginning!
"“I am the Al′pha and the O·me′ga,” says Jehovah* God, “the One who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.”
-Revelation 1:8
{Or, “the A and the Z.” Gr., Ïὸ á¿ÎλÏα καὶ Ïὸ á¿Î© (to Al′pha kai to O[·me′ga]), the first and last letters of the Gr. alphabet; SyhJ22, “the Aleph and the Taw.”}
*(Je·ho′vah) [the causative form, the imperfect state, of the Heb. verb ha·wah′ (become); meaning “He Causes to Become”].
He didn't pop up............he has always been there....you are the one with a beginning.
Jehovah is the Creator of all things, the great First Cause; hence he is uncreated, without beginning. (Re 4:11) “In number his years are beyond searching.” (Job 36:26) It is impossible to place an age upon him, for there is no starting point from which to measure. Though ageless, he is properly called “the Ancient of Days” since his existence stretches endlessly into the past. (Da 7:9, 13) He is also without future end (Re 10:6), being incorruptible, undying. He is therefore called “the King of eternity” (1Ti 1:17), to whom a thousand years are but as a night watch of a few hours.—Ps 90:2, 4; Jer 10:10; Hab 1:12; Re 15:3.

God did not appear out of nothing, God has no beginning he always was there was never a time when he did not exist, it is something that humans just cannot fathom with their puny understanding just like if you try to understand the universe that God has made, can you fathom where the universe begins and where it ends, can you tell me how many stars it contains, how many moons, planets asteroids. and what ever other things the universe contains? I thik not! So, then, how could you know or understand how God has no beginning or an end?By no means but God knows each of his creations by name he knows not only how many of each there is, but also the location of them as well as their names, no God did not pop out of the Blue, you only cannot fathom how God exists because you have human understanding which could never understand God's being and personality even though he is described in the Bible, though reading it

There is no way we can understand this. That is why we believe. Well, at least those of us who do believe in a Higher Power.
Religion has very little to do with the Higher Power.
Just seeing the balance of the universe is enough for me to believe. If the level of carbon is off a weeeeeeeeeeeee bit we would explode.
Seeing a baby born confirms my belief is God.
Science points to God. Evalution points to a God. The death of my son points to God.
I don't understand it.......and I know I never will. That is why there is that thing called Faith.
I always wonder why those who don't belive in God spend so much time talking about how He doesn't exist.

He didn't pop out of anywhere. He is the energy source from which all creation came . Which of the many elements that came together to make creation do you think decided the things that were to come together down through the ages to make our world and the universe. Or do you think each little particle had a wee bit of intelligence that guided it to the next particle and then there were two particles which had twice the intelligence until here we are. OK-but where did that intelligence come from. Random selection without an intelligence behind it would not come into the form, design, intent and purpose we see in creation. And I can't see any atom, cell, etc. creating intelligence.

we don't believe that he popped out of the blue. Stop being silly.
God is not restricted to space and time therefore, you are never going to understand how God exists. there are no words or language capable of explaining that to us. Its like trying to explain the internet to an ant... (good luck)
But us christians will get the chance to ask every question we have been longing to ask when we get to heaven! yay!

Well, it's kinda weird, but He has always existed, since the beginning of time. And, if there was ever a time when time did not exist, He existed then too and He created time so He is outside of it. The same way you can look into the future and see it go on forever for eternity without end is the same way you can look into the past and see it go on forever for an eternity without beginning and He has existed as long as that. He has always existed.

Funny, someone recently put forth the idea that we collectively make up God. I find that a fascinating idea - but it does not get us closer to understanding who and what we are. In truth, none of our ideas gets us any closer to understanding the nature of God, let alone how it was created.
Personally, I say develop your faith to help you in hard times and help you be happy and excel in life - and don't sweat the details no one can possibly know the answer to. We will all know the answer soon enough - in the mean time, let's make better use of our time here. Let us reflect the changes we want to see in the world and make it so.
Peace!

It actually takes more faith to believe that:
Everything came from nothing
Nothing produces everything
Non-life produces life
Randomness produces fine-tuning
Chaos produces information
Chaos produces order
Unconsciousness produces consciousness
Nonreason produces reason
The Bible tells us that God always was and always will be but nothing else about his energy.

God always existed. Might I remind you that believers say God created the entire universe singlehandedly... perhaps he's a little too all-powerful and mysterious to describe with human terms like "electical energy" and "atomic energy"
