How many do you typically send out?Do you write lengthy notes in each one? Or do you shove a picture in and sign the family's name? What do you do if you receive a Christmas card from someone whom you did not send one to and now it's after Christmas?
I'm just asking to see what other people do.

I send out about 20 each year. I generally say "Hi" to each person in each family I write to and then sign the family name and stuff a family photo in it, so they can see how my family is growing and looks this year. I like getting the cards too, as I decorate the archways of my living areas with them. When I get a card from someone I did not send one to, I send a "Happy New Year" card to them, in something of the same fashion as the Christmas card.
I have lived in a few different areas of the country, so it's not very likely that I see those friends very often through the year...as the first answerer answered so self-piusly: as if sending a card means that I care any less about them.

Yes. I send out about 15-20. I don't write lengthy notes or do the Christmas-letter-thing (I hate those!) I just write "Merry Christmas and Happy 2007" or something to that effect. I send a small picture of my kids. If I received a card from someone I didn't send one to, I'd call or send an email to that person soon and try to remember to send one next year.

I usually send out between 80 and 100 cards. This year I designed a layout on the computer and copied it out on pretty Christmas paper (with matching envelopes) from the office supply store. Some I write a lengthy note in. Some I write a short note. Some only a short greeting and our name. I keep a basket by the tree with extra Christmas cards, notepaper, stamps....If I get a card from someone who hadn't been on my list I quickly stick one in the mail to them. Then I add them to my permanent list for next year.

I've been married a while. I used to write out near 40 cards every Christmas. Over the past few years I"ve whittled it down to who sends me cards...gotten it down to about 18 now, which is very comfortable. I write a short note, that's all. If we've had a family picture taken it's included to family. Because of the established list, we don't get surprise cards.

Yes I send out Christmas cards, usually around 25 of them or so.
I write a brief sentence in each to personalize it a bit, no pictures, and I sign each persons name individually.
I've never got one from someone I didn't send one too...well except for businesses...but I don't care about their cards...if I got one from a person not on my list I would hurry up and send one back, but only before Christmas, but if it was too late I'd just get them next year. Sending out cards after Christmas is sort of tacky to me.

We send out about 80 cards every year. We write a personal note in each one--just a few sentences, usually. If we receive a card from someone to whom we did not send one, we'll send a "happy new year" card to that person.

This year I sent out approximately 35. I wrote a brief personalized noted to the people and signed my name. I didn't include any photos. In a couple of them the message I wrote was much longer.
If I got one from someone I didn't send a card to, I would just appreciate it and not worry about sending one back.

Christmas is one time you use the occasion to contact long lost friends and family members. Usually, receiving a card brings some
joy especially from someone long lost, even if it reaches you post Christmas..

i send out at least 50 long notes . and some times top it off with a poem for all of them . i give every one a card regardless if the give me one or not. if some one sends me one i dont send out one after christmas because they will think that the card reminded you of them . so i give them a call . and thank them
