Can anyone explain the type of back pain that one may have if they have pancreatic cancer ? How severe , does it get worse fast etc ... I have been looking at all the websites and all of them just say mid-upper back pain but no elaborations are given .

Is there some specific reason you suspect pancreatic cancer? There are lots of causes for mid to upper back pain, some musculoskeletal and some internal. Do you have any jaundice? That's one of the possible signs of pancreatic cancer.
I know when I had a bout of diverticulitis, I had bad pain in my upper back. The doc said that the pain from my colon was radiating to my kidneys, which is common with diverticulitis.
So there are lots of things that can cause back pain. If you really are concerned, why not get it checked out by a doctor?

typically if a patient has back pain from pancreatic cancer, it is nonoperable and carries a poor prognosis. The pain may radiate up and down the back, or may radiate from the abdomen, feels like boring through to the back.
The one thing that you may want to look into is Endoscopic ultrasound guided celiac plexus block - like a nerve block of the nerves that cause this pain - can be permanent relief of pain for people with pancreatic cancer.

Everyone experiences pain differently, and each has their own tolerance as well, which makes it hard to define.
The pain tends to be deep, and penetrating. Not a hot pain, or a sharp pain. Dull, deep, radiating, and constant. The speed at which it intensifies will more than likely be based on how quickly the cancer grows.
If you or your loved one has pancreatic cancer, I would highly recommend seeking information now from Hospice. Hospice has more information on pain than the average Dr. is willing to tell you about.
Hospice people are extremely caring, and a Godsend. They are there to take care of not only the person with end stage cancer, but support the family as well. There is no charge for Hospice. They will help make arrangements for a hospital bed, wheel chair if needed, and all medical treatment. They stay in constant contact with the Dr. so that the person whom they are taking care of doesn't even need to go to the Dr.
They are excellent in making sure the person has the very best pain management, and are as comfortable as they can be.
Hospice will usually cover the cost of all meds once a person is set up with them.
Hospice will be there to handle all arrangements for the family, and help make sure the patients wishes are taken care of.
I hope I have not gone off on a tangent here, but I thought it might help to give you more information, even though you didn't ask.

According to the Mayo Website below, there is a link with pancreatic cancer and back pain. Typically, during the pancreatic cancer, the pain tends to radiate up and down the back.

The pain is a sharp pain the the mid back area. It is very painful and am sorry to say that yes it will get worse.
