If that is on your agenda, you need to donate a generous amount of your body fluids and time to science to determine the secret of your longevity. On the other hand, we'd then become even more overpopulated, so perhaps you should make sure no one learns of your freakish nature so you can live your life in peace while you worry about the Y3K bug...as far as that goes, Y2K was a fizzle, so your biggest worry will probably be explaining while you're still collecting Social Security benefits...better start switching identities before that becomes an issue, don'tcha think?

Hehe, well, if you're looking for a serious answer then that would be no. Before the year 2000 many old systems used only two digits for the year like 82 for 1982. The problem started because the computers couldn't tell the difference between 1900 being 00 and 2000 also being 00. I remember all the Armageddon like predictions that people tossed out, things like "the power is going to go out", "missiles will launch" or "your car won't start".

Yeah, I just rolled my eyes and dismissed them. The worst thing that happened was my dentist lost a few patient records (of course they had hard copies and had to enter them manually).

Computers that run the power grid, don't care what date it is, computers that control missile silos are under human control and don't care what date it is. Cars don't car what date it is because they don't even keep track of the date. And so on and so forth.

That being said, because of all the fear (unfounded fear) a bunch of programmers were hired by just about every company to update the programs to a four digit date system before the year 2000 started. Programming like that continues and will continue.

If we don't manage to destroy the Earth by the year 3000, whatever we have that passes for a computer will most likely keep track of the year based on four digits. So no, it won't be a problem.

Oh yeah, if you're planning on living for another 993 years, tell me what your secret is.

You won't have to worry about the extra digit in the year until 10,000 AD. To be absolutely on the safe side, you should make sure all your software will hold five places in the year field. That would make this year 02007.

You might want to go a step or two further, because the problem will come up again in the year 100,000 and the year 1,000,000.

Happy 0002007!

We won't have computers then. It'll all revert back in time, like that cartoon movie Flinstones Meet The Jetsons.

Well, I just read that they think that one person who is alive today will make it for 1000 years ... if it is you, then worry.
