It will be difficult, especially if your hair is straight. Locs develop by the hair's ability to curl and weave itself until it cannot be undone. You pretty much have to cut them off and start over if you want to change it after it has really loc'd.

I have seen some caucasians do it with naturally curly hair or even take a perm to get the process going, but to actually realize length with dread locs, you will need to commit for years.

If all you want is some dreads now (and change your look often), just buy some dread extensions and have a salon attach them for you. (This can also give you a preview of what you'll look like and you'll know if this is something you'd like to pursue permanently).

The trick to getting them is don't wash or brush your hair and the oils from it will caused it to mat and tangle. But make sure this is what you want once I didn't want mine anymore i had to shave it all off and start over

my straight-haired friend got them by putting her hair into tiny braids completely and left them there. she washed them, but never took them out. they turned from braids into really nice dreads after about 6 months.

you do not need any help....just wet your hair, then run your hands through it, mess it up, a lot..then do not wash your hair for a while, just mess it up all the time...you will feel knots start to form, just keep rubbing your hair, you'll be suprised..
