Well it isn't widely accepted that intelligent design is a theory, at least not by the scientific community.

Because there are too many ignorant people!

Scientifically, evolution is a FACT, because all the evidence, fossil and genetic, supports it. The only way creationists and IDers (IDiots is a better term) can get around it is to LIE to people, so that's what they do. They assume - with a straight face and unsurpassed arrogance - that the sheer speculations of ancient priests and shamans have as much weight as 400 years of hard work by thousands of scientists in figuring out how things *really* are. The reasonable mind boggles at such an outrageous affront to both reason and humility.

Cretinists and IDiots also don't even know what they're against. They confuse (perhaps intentionally, it's hard to say because they lie so much) the origin of life with its evolution; and they always repeat the lie (again, intentional or not) that evolution says that humans evolved from apes when the truth is we both have a common ancestor that was neither.

Cretinists and IDiots also lie about the scientific meaning of the word "theory." In the scientific sense, a theory is *an explanation of a set of FACTS* not an educated guess. The fact - evolution - is already established; the theory is a constantly evolving effort to make sense of the facts.

Finally, the biggest whopper of all is their smug assumption of the existence of some magical CReator and All-Powerful Poobah (CRAPP) which the universe needed for it to exist, but this CRAPP has somehow always existed with no need for its own creator!

How people can swallow this utter swill is both astounding and very frightening.

There is a lot of money in very focused efforts to make Intelligent Design seem credible by certain Christian groups, but it is no more a scientific theory and the Sun revolving around the Earth.

someone should blow up the discovery institute and their wedge strategy.
theist evolution theories have ID and evolution as non conflicting.
unfortunately the thing is when ppl have a satisfactory solution they stop arguing, and the loudmouths who believe they are conflicting theories make a hell of a lot more noise and u notice them more.
about 10% of americans actually think they are opposing theories, but the ruckus that 10% makes is incredible.

Intelligent Design is not a scientific theory. It is nonsense created by lay people who are frightened by evolution.

Evolution is a proven fact. It is the cornerstone of all modern biology.

They are opposing, because IE is fantasty, and Evolution is fact.

It's a shame, since Intelligent Design isn't a theory. It was only created to discredit evolution. It provides no new ideas of its own.

Because it's hard to accept evolution if you believe in ID, and vice versa.

Due to the efforts of our 'Christian' nation.

Creationism has no credibility other than in Christian beliefs.
