I have a ten week old German Shepherd pup....I noticed just above his penis closer to the middle of his stomach...there is a bump.....I think it is his belly button...when i first got him the area was grey....assuming from the umbilical cord after birth. Do dogs even have belly buttons?.....help preferably from a breeder or a vet of some sort....He is going to the vet for his shots on the 13th...thanks

Yes, they just aren't as noticable when they get older. Since dogs are born faster, their navels are smaller. When they heal, the dog ends up with a nearly invisible little scar.

it sounds like an umbilical hernia. don't worry this is very very common in puppies. your vet may decide to even wait to fix it until you have your dog neutered around 5-6 months. this is a condition where the abdominal wall has weakened and caused some of the fat and possibly a small amount of intestines to come through and stick out by the skin. as long as the area is small don't worry too much. if it gets bigger then you should take him to the vet right away. dogs, unlike people when they are in the uterus, they grow so quickly that the intestines actually devolop in the umbilical cord, and then drop into the abdomen when there is room. sounds strange but true. it usually has to be surgically fixed but some dogs will right it on their own. that is rare though. just keep an eye on the area, and don't forget to show your vet when you go in on the 13th if it stays the same. good luck

It could be where the umbilical cord was or it could be a hernia. I'd get it checked out with the vet.

Yes puppys have "belly buttons". You are seeing where the umbilical cord was attached to your puppy.

No need to worry it is most certainly what you would call his belly button.

it may be a hernia, or it just may be a puppy bump. make sure that you point it out to the vet.
as long as he is still eating and pooping, dont worry

propbably not a lot to worry here, call your vet and tell them about it, see what they suggest, since you do have an appointment so soon
calling is your best bet
