Pneumatic tires exist to soften the ride, allow the tire to conform to the road surface for more grip, choose the PSI for comfort/speed, and are easy to install.
Solid tubes are none of the above.
If you manage to install them without breaking a finger or two, they may be too soft to protect the much more expensive wheel or too firm to allow proper traction.
In other words, stop riding through thorns. Tubes are the easiest, most cost effective way to fill a bike tire for a reason. They were invented well over 100 years ago and haven't changed.

No, they are too heavy. To lessen rolling resistance, the tires' moment of inertia must be minimized. Air is much lighter than rubber. Also, solid tires do not absorb shock. Unless you are riding on broken glass, most manufactured tube tires are tough enough to handle normal road hazards.

I agree with Richard B, definitely not worth it. For the same reason car tires are filled with air, weight and fuel efficiency are intertwined. So in the case of bicycles, weight and endurance are intertwined. You'll definitely poop out sooner with the solid tire.

i cant imagine why you would want to use them. they must be awful hard and unpleasant to ride on in most all conditions. even with a full suspension bike the system needs the extra shock absorption of the inner tube to work its best.
