I always hear my mother complaining about how I have pinworms because I bite my nails. Is it true? If not, why do I bite my nails?

I believe biting your nails is a nervous habit and could be associated with OCD

I think you mother means you could get pinworms if you bite your nails. Pinworms like to live under your nails, and you can get them there after, lets say, gardening. Make sure you wash your hands before biting your nails again.
There isn't really a cause for biting your nails. It's just something you do.

No. Biting your nails is probably just a habit. But if you see something dark in your nails, that means you have worms in your body.

Biting your nails is not a sign indicating pinworms--an itchy bum is. Biting your nails is a bad habit that many times is due to anxiety or nervousness. They have nail polish that is supposed to taste bad to help break the habit--Sally Beauty Supply should have it. You can also put jalapeno oil on your nails to make it less desireable.

It doesn't automatically mean you have worms. But biting your nails CAN cause you to get pinworms.

LOL, nooo!! you bite your nails because is a bad habit, i used to do it too, when i was nervous or anxious. you can get worms if you bite your nails when they are dirty because the dirt goes through your saliva down your stomach. otherwise just bitting them don't give you worms.

No. I don't believe that it is true. I used to bite my nails, but I just had to make a conscious effort to stop. It took a couple tries, but I finally got it.

Biting your nails is a nervous habit. I wouldn't worry about worms.

No, it means you have a bad habit. Try the stuff you can paint your nails with that gives them a bitter taste. I don't know the name of it, but you can buy it at Walmart in the pharmacy section with all the nail treatments.
