If u have no prior charges, then you can take what is called a Judaical diversion and it will not appear on your record, you will not even be put on probation. This diversion can only be used once, but you will get some kind of suspended sentence, and if you get into any kind of trouble during this allotted time you will spend the whole time plus your new charge. Otherwise if you do have charges on your record it is fairly unlikely that you can join the navy. But, it never hurts to try. Maybe, if you get turned down because of this you can go through some kind of an appeal process. It is on to how bad that you want to be in the Navy. Good luck and I wish you the best.

No, the Navy will not turn you away because you have a DWI. Just don't get one while you are in because that'll be an automatic Captains Mast and you'll be restricted to the ship for 45 days and probably busted down in rank. However, effective today, your ASVAB score must be 75 to enlist. So if you've taken it and made higher good on you. If you haven't taken it and you go through the Navy Recruiter and score less than 75, he'll refer you to another branch. The Army now has a minimum ASVAB score of 15. Good Luck!! Maybe one day we'll meet in the fleet.

The very best thing to do is to go to the nearest US Navy Recruiter and they will be glad to give you that information. I don't think that a 1st DWI will stop you from entering the Navy, but things have changed since I was in the service.

i have a friend who had a similar problem ( not sure if it was a dwi or not ) but whatever the outcome just make sure its all cleared up with the courts before you actually sign anything. my friend was all set to join the army last summer and he had some court case that wasn't completely settled in the books and that prevented him from being able to join. i don't know about the military's policy though on dwi charges, sure they won't make a huge fuss about it if you get it all cleared and don't go to jail. good luck.

I am not sure...but I don't think so.
However, my advice to you is to hire an attorney and try and get this dropped. Even if it costs you a few thousand dollars (which it most likely will not) it will save you money and grief in the long run.
On you first DWI they are usually willing to work with you. But you need an attorney.

Hey I have a great idea. Instead of asking here. Why not go to the source and save yourself a great deal of time. Besides even if you do qualify with the DUI, you still have to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test), answer all of the other questions and pass a physical.

If you are convicted, it will. The military is very strict on DUI/ DWI. Service Members convicted of DUI's are not elligible for re-enlistment. That was passed in the 90's.

Are you in DEP yet? If so, tell your Recruiter immediately. If you do get a prosecutor that's willing to work with you, like one of the other posters suggested, you may need your Recruiter to vouch for you. Let him get over his mad now. Also, if you're going for a rating with a Security Clearance, let this be a lesson. I really don't mean to preach, but our son has seen two get busted out of the Nuke program down to barnacle scraper for this very thing.
Good luck!

If you have paid the fine and completed all the court orders you could get a waiver to join. But the Navy has a strict policy and once your in if you have a second offense, it could cause you to be administrative separated.

I don't know about now, but when I entered in the mid-90's, a DWI could prevent you from entering.
