being a christian, I am greatly troubled by Joel Osteen. The fluff he preaches does not match up with th Word of God.

Hi there, I haven't been on R&S in a while, I got on to see what was happening and saw your ??

Joel is a speaker. I believe he loves the Lord, but he'll never, ever be like his father, who I think was about as Godly as they come.

Most everyone is correct though, he loves to motivate and is a good business man. I do not believe he is a "real preacher".

Hope all is well with you!

I think he's a little bit of both. He is a great motivational speaker, however, when he ties in the Gospel message he does it crooked. The Gospel message is not about prosperity or even feeling good about yourself. (although it does oftentimes create a sense of self worth).

All-in-all Joel Osteen's teachings must be taken with a grain of salt. Always match what he says to scripture. Joel's not the Truth, Jesus is.

I like him because he is a nice guy. But I would have to agree with you, he's a motivational speaker, he just seems to have a regular crowd to motivate.

He starts his sermon by raising up the Bible and they have that little saying each week. That's the last time you see a Bible while he is preaching. The few times that he claims to be using a verse, he never gives the reference.

At best, a very wishy washy preacher.

Every time I've seen him he seems to be more of a motivational speaker. I think he want's to be popular and politically correct so he tells people what they want to hear. sometimes it seems to me that he insinuates Jesus but never talks about him directly. If you are going to preach then you have to preach the whole truth I feel sorry for the people who attend that church totally new to christainity b/c it definitely takes more than being a good person and treating others good and even with that not all good people are rich or prosperous...I've tried to watch him and I can't get into him, he's just not right.

Don't know. Is he that young preacher that is so popular all of a sudden.
I look for people who are on fire for God from deep within their bones.
Motivational speakers don't do it for me.
I just read the book Caleb by Francine Rivers. The name of the book is The Warrier. There was a book with some fire in it!!!

I believe he's a real preacher. He seems to live as he preaches and believes that in God, the motivation he described is definitely possible.

Motivational Speaker. He doesn't preach from the bible at like all. I mean he has a lot of great things to say, but he doesn't preach about sin, jesus, or anything biblical.
