I drained off the drippings from a roast to make gravy, but I set aside all the oil. Now I have a bowl full of beef fat that has hardened into lard. What can (or should) I do with it? Recipes? Crafts? Garbage?

Well there is few things you can do with rendered fat... but I suggest not giving it to a dog because eating large amounts of fatty foods can cause pancreatitis in dogs.

Make suet balls or cakes for birds instead since such foods are actually good for them...... Just slightly melt a portion of the fat and mix in bird seed like sunflowers, cracked corn, peanuts, dried fruits, nuts, seeds etc. then pour into empty plastic containers of whatever shape you like or mold into any shape with your hands, chill in the fridge or freezer upside down on wax paper until hardened, remove from the mold and place outside preferable in a wire cage or on a platform or feeder, because birds can get their feet tangled in loose netting(like an onion bag). You can also collect large opened pinecones, attach a thick string to the top and then coat them with the suet (fat and birdseed) and hang them along the branches of the nearest tree. The birds are very appreciative of any fat and protein they can get during the winter months in order to survive lower temperatures. So I think using leftovers to help them out is great and birds are always fascinating to watch and listen to. I guess you could kill two birds with one stone, as they say, by getting rid of the fat you have no use for and feeding the birds who will make good use of that food to a bird-watchers great enjoyment...

No not lark. Lard if from pork.

tallo is more like what you have and can be used to make candles with.

You can also make a flur and beef fat mixture and fry it as a snack. It is good.

That's actually called tallow. (Lard is pig fat.) In colonial times, they made candles out of tallow, but it smells gnarly when you burn it.

As I understand it, there is a recycle program for tallow. I think it gets used in certain manufacturing processes. You might contact the local recycle center and get their advice on disposing of it.

I'm told you can cook some pretty good french fries in it if you deep fry them. Apparently that used to be pretty standard, but it's too much cholesterol for most of us these days.

Proper thing to do with it is to make yorkshire pudding or gravy. I prefer a less fatning gravy. You could fry with it. You could make soap with it. You could throw it away. My favorite is to go to someones house you don't like, and smear it all over the place. He'll have furr friends visiting.

Throw it away. The beef fat can clog your artery and sink.
