I've heard this term before, Its funny to hear it being used outside of Hinduism, In Hinduism Shiva is a god that predates Judaism. They have found Shiva Lingams that date back to prehistoric times. When people sit Shiva are they cross legged, as from what I have heard about the activity, it sounds like a form of meditation, something Lord Shiva is renowned for.
