My boyfriend's going through the immigration interview tomorrow... he's from Pakistan, trying for a US green card. I'm absurdly worried and paranoid that no matter what, they'll send him back. He kept telling me that it's almost a sure thing but I dunno if he's just saying that to make me feel better.

I guess what I'm really asking is that if you've come that far in getting your green card after years of waiting, is it likely that they'll say no just like that? Is the interview really just a formailty? Please help ease my troubled mind :(

No criminal record, clean as a whistle.

I don't understand the thumbs-down, though.

Great Question! Yes he should be fine. Once you've gotten to the interview process the hard work is over, so tell him not to sweat it. What they are going to do at the interview is cross-check facts against his statements and clarify any questions that may have come up from his background investigation. By the way, thanks. Tell him thanks from this Easterner for taking the time to do things right and legal and give him my welcome to the US!.

There could be a lot of reasons for the thumbs down. Pakistan is not know for her people's love of the US, this may be one reason.

Some people may give you a thumps down because they might wonder why you can't find a boyfriend here.

Others may be burned out on the whole immigration thing what with the millions of illegals that are pouring across our southern boarders.

My answer would be yes it is possible to be turned down. The United States is a nation of laws. Most people do not understand that. Along with laws come a certain about of bureaucracy, this is necessary to make sure that the laws are followed as written, not by the whim of some local chief, no matter what people think. If your boyfriend meets the requirements he will be allowed in, if not, he won't. I'm sure that after years of waiting you both know if he meets the requirements.

Good luck if he does, this country can always use another immigrant that is willing to adopt our way of life and become a law abiding citizen.

Federal offices are closed on the 2nd b/c of President Ford's memorial service. So be prepared for a delay.

Not a formality. They will review the petition and ask more qualifying questions (also bring the application up to date b/c I am sure he filed a while ago).

But if he is qualified, then no worries.

If he has not done anything wrong and he is already at the interview process he is right the interview process is mostly a formality it makes sure that the original reason you were granted entrance into the country is still valid (i.e. working on a work visa...) and that you have not broken any laws. As long as he has followed the proper procedure for his visa than he should be granted his citizenship no problem.

Yes he will be fine. Don't worry! When one does things the right way respecting the laws of this country, he is truly welcome and will have no problem coming into the States. Tell him I said welcome to America. He's a glowing example for the many illegal aliens to observe and learn from. Bravo to Him!

The thumbs down are from the nice people here who would like you to believe they are only against illegal immigration when in reality they are very racist. He will do fine in his interview, good luck to you both.

I believe the offices will be closed tomorrow. So check before you leave home.

What is the basis for his green card?

Does he have any type of criminal record?
