i've never been in a relationship, but don't try and use that against me, its just not right, there meant to love this gf, but they talk about there ex's to them!?, how do they think this makes there current gf feel, if the guy actually cares that is.

what is the mental processes behind it?

is it some sort of sick thing to get the girl to stick by them, thinking that she has to prove that she is better than the ex?

i'm a guy myself, and i just don't get it, i would do everything i could to make a girl happy, as long as i knew it was having the right effect, to keep her happy, and not making her greedy or adding to her selfishness (if she had that side so much that it was a problem)

The main reason some guys talk about an ex to a current girl friend is because she asks. If a woman asks just give the bare minimum information. Big mistake to go into too much detail about a past love and it's none of their business. Sometimes guys don't realize what they are saying until it is too late.

Because he doesn't like you, if he liked you he wouldn't want you to feel hurt or think negatively, use you as a therapist etc. Next time it happens, just go "oh right, ok...wow, did you see the ball drop for NYE in Times Square" and don't do anything "female" like say "when you talk about your ex it bothers me" don't be deep and heavy. Just nicely divert the conversation and see if that doesn't fix it, but honestly, I think maybe he's not so into you, sorry. Make him call you at least three times before you pick up the phone so that way he sweats a little. Hang in there!

I don't really get that either, and it's not just guys that do it. I once had a girlfriend who just wouldn't shut up about this ex of hers, man it was annoying...

I think it depends on the context that they're talking about them too, there might actually be a time where it is appropriate, though I am yet to find it.

nope

for me its just that if you are really trying to connect deeply with someone, the past lives with the exes say a lot about who the person is and what she needs now
