Sit ups, look after yourself. Known as the middle-aged spread my friend. I'm sorry to say that youth is no longer on your side as far as your metabolism is concerned.

It really is a fairly simple formula. Eat less/better and exercise more. There's only one way that human beings gain weight and that's by eating. Plus. as we get older our metabolisms slow down and eating/drinking too much and not getting enough exercise have a more pronounced effect. There's always some new fad diet that people hope is the magic bullet but if you want real results you're going to have to make some real changes. For starters, eliminate all soft drinks (Coke, Pepsi, etc.) and replace with water or non-sugar/diet drinks. Switch to light beer. You'll drastically cut your calorie/carbohydrate intake. Avoid junk food but don't skip meals. Get into some sort of cardio 5 days a week and stick with it. Machines (stairs, elliptical, treadmill), running or cycling are all good. Do what you think you'll enjoy most (or despise least, LOL) and what you know your body can handle.

For the quickest way to lose weight, begin a walking program. If your health permits, walk at a steady pace and try to walk everyday or at least three times a week. Malls have walking programs which are great for inclement weather.
Since you know that beer and too much food is the problem, then work on getting that under control. Not to cut it out altogether, but control your portions and frequency of consumption.
People can achieve weight loss on their own. However, having a walking buddy helps to keep you motivated and on track. Hang in there and know that you can do it!

If at all possible cut out as many carbohydrates as you can.
This is found in food items containing sugar in them.
Alcohol is one of the highest carbohydrate products that is consumed.
Begin a ritual of eating as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.
At first the task will be very hard for you to accomplish due to the fact that your body will be craving the carbos that you have been fulfilling it with for so long.No pain -no gain in this case.
As you stay on a routine of a very low carbo diet you will notice weight reduction and begin to realize that you have more energy.
Once your energy level kicks in it would be wise to begin an exercise ritual. Walking for a reasonable distance is a great way to start.
The problem with keeping it off is a common one.
It falls in the catagory of finding yourself going back to relying on your old vices like smoking or excessive drinking, etc.
Only there's one more piece to the puzzle that helps you to find yourself back to your overweight return- delayed reaction-
When you lose weight you may begin to feel that no matter what you eat you will not gain weight. Thats because at first what your ingesting has a delayed reaction to begin to create the bulging of your body. It's your mind trying to get the whole cycle of carbo packing to begin again. Another part of your mind has to enforce will power. Thats a part of the body where you have to learn to excercise "mind over matter" abilities...It can be done !

You have what is known asa a beer gut. Lay off of the beer and
all other carbonated beverages (too much sodium)
Cut down on snacking and start walking. 20 minute intervals
3 times a week does wonders. You can do it, You already

Honestly, you're going to have to sacrifice something (ex. dieting). It's going to require a bit of discipline, but it can be done. First of all, limit junk food and beer. That should be your main priority. Secondly, get active. If you have a desk job, spend part of your lunch break walking through a park or around the office if possible. You have to burn more calories than you take in.

See your doctor. Get yourself checked out then get on an approved exercise program. When my Grandparents (early 60s) started working out they couldn't believe the difference in the way they felt and look.... Stay active... Stay off the beer if possible.... Good luck

I am sympathetic. It's crime what a few years will do to our metabolisms! My suggestions are to eat your supper later in the day and skip the bedtime snack, to do at least 20 minutes of activity per day such as walking, dancing, marching in place or whatever, just keep moving. And cut down on the fat in your diet by eating smaller portions of meat and larger portions of vegetables.
Best wishes to you!

You should talk to your dr. about it. There are what are considered "safe" exercises that you can do to reduce your belly. One thing that will help a little is to drink water, and not so many caffeine drinks. Caffeine causes you to be bloated, and it can also cause constipation which would make you belly a little bigger and tight.
